i think it was somewhat popular a while back, but recent fossil evidence suggests it was wrong. i dont know, its not something i read much about but i've got a friend who's spent a large chunk of his time digging in montana for the last decade and he often talks about the newest evidence in the paleontology world.

I was recently thinking about that Insane Clown Posse song "Miracles" and how the internet ridiculed at the "And I don't wanna talk to a scientist, Y'all motherfuckers lying, and getting me pissed" line. It made me wonder how many people who went along with that (fair) criticism are now buttflustered about the recent revisions to our understanding of dinosaurs.

Maybe opportunitistic and did both. Lions are the apex predators in Africa and they'll routinely steal food from other carnivores or scavenge. Why would T-Rex be any different?

dredging up from memory the only thing that comes to mind suggested that the tooth and jaw structure/musculature of the trex would have been way over-evolved for a diet primarily based on carrion.

Yeah, asking whether the T-Rex got most of its calories from hunting itself or stealing seems like splitting hairs: there's plenty of evidence they hunted, and no doubt something that big and powerful *also* routinely rolled up on other predators and stole their kills. Probably the answer varied from place to place and from individual to individual.

By definition if a thing is a scavenger it isn't an apex predator

You realize that if they eat dead animals, theyd still leave tooth marks on them... right?

The wounds weren't fresh and showed signs of healing. Meaning the dinosaur was wounded by a T-Rex and escaped.

They were opportunistic hunters. They hunted and scavenged. They would take someone else's kill and then fuck something up on their own. This push to make them seem less predatory by some pseudo-woke armchair paleontologists is beyond trite.

What's more boggling is that these tall mf'ers probably hooted instead of roaring. Which, in my opinion, is even more terrifying. Some deep chested hoot coming from the jungle that you just know means you're fucked.

The T. Rex was too slow to chase down fast prey. They would take on large herbivores that couldn't move fast, and steal kills from faster dinosaurs.

Mostly a scavenger? No, they were predators, really high on the chain too.

Of course I'm guessing they did scavenge, because smaller and less powerful predators would leave when they saw him, leaving whatever they were eating.

He was a big proponent of the hypothesis, despite it never gaining a foothold in the paleontological community, but he and others that advocated it were not necessarily crackpots, as it was not an outlandish idea. The people that are saying that birds evolved from some other lineage of reptiles rather than being a living lineage of dinosaurs are a good example of actual crackpots.

Horner, by the way, has accepted that the hypothesis is bunk.
