So I've been considering switching from Comcast/Xfinity to Verizon. It looks like I can get much faster internet and pay even LESS per month than I do now, so why not? Well, one of the things stopping me is the amount of hassle/aggravation there might be when you try to leave Comcast. So I was wondering if anyone here has any recent experience with that.

They will probably try to keep you by offering aggressive discounts or higher speeds

But i think those are "promotions" they find that revert after a year.

I moved from Comcast to Verizon back in June.

It was a huge pain in the ass, i had to call Comcast multiple times to get it canceled. Returning the equipment was simple enough, but the billing and customer support were nightmarish. At one point they tried telling me that it was impossible to cancel both my internet and cable and they could only cancel one at a time. At a different point they canceled me then immediately signed me up for another plan without my agreement, which i only realized when i logged into my account.

Good luck out there.

Well, that's not very reassuring. But, I have no equipment from Comcast and ONLY get internet from them, so things might go smoother for me.

Just be firm and they will let you cancel.

All ISPs are terrible. Blame yourself. Or god.

At the end of the day it's better to not have Comcast, so you'll have to bite the bullet eventually! Just be careful and check on everything.

Man I wish I could switch providers.

My area only has one ISP that can do more than 10 mbps and that's Mediacom. The ISP who usually wins the award for worst ISP in the country.

Just be direct and say "I've already committed to another provider and I'm not going to pay two different companies for the same service". If you phrase your switch to Verizon as a done deal they wont try as aggressively to convince you to stay.

I haven't dealt with Comcast specifically. But every time I switch ISPs, I just tell the old one that I'm moving to London. Calls are always quick and without hassle.

oh yeah, you could always tell them it's because you are moving to an area that they don't service, true.

Yeah I think if I sign up for Verizon before I contact Comcast that should make things easier, since itll already be a done deal.

OK, not finding a clear answer on this so I may as well try here. I think I know the answer but I may as well ask. If I, say, sign up for internet service from Verizon that is $60/month with a free router, I should assume the monthly cost will NOT stay at 60 right? This is probably some kind of promotional/new customer price, and it will go away after a certain amount of months? The problem I'm having verifying this is is that on the verizon site there is nothing clarifying that this is a temporary price. If I were to take the site at its word, then the monthly price with the router would stay the same forever.

You need to read the fine print on the plan for that information. Sometimes the listed price really is just the normal ongoing price. That doesn't mean it is forever, though. Prices can go up but they would be going up for everyone on that plan not just because of an intro price expiring.
