New Century. The one with Bit Cloud and Liger Zero. Feels kinda good to finally finish this one, since the last time I tried, Cartoon Network bumped the finale for some dumb GI Joe movie, then immediately cancelled the entire block that aired it lol.

It's kind of an interesting series, like a slice-of-life take on the battle shonen genre. There's barely any real plot until the last few episodes. Also, the only character development anyone in the show gets is sudden onset multiple personality disorder. But the worldbuilding is strangely on point. Like, I don't know why, but despite taking place in a barren wasteland and never exploring any aspect of life outside of Zoid battles, the world feels lived in to me. And the "culture" of the citizens and zoid warriors feels kinda genuine. I was rarely scratching my head the same way something like YuGiOh has me going.

Only real annoying aspect is Bit Cloud is a boring af protagonist and if his dub voice wasn't literally Inu Yasha he'd be utterly forgettable. Before the final boss shows up he only loses one battle, which is weird because late in the series they make a big todo about how Ultimate X Zoids learn from their losses and adapt to become more powerful. Also, considering the original Zoids series was like, 70 freaking episodes, it's kind of weird that this one only managed 26. Idk if it just wasn't as popular, or if that's all they wanted to do, because at the end of the day it's pretty obvious their main goal was to sell model kits. >_>

One final note. It was pretty funny how the end of the series brought back the Genosauruses from the previous series, which were these super badass villain's original zoid, only to have them all job like fucking losers lolllllll

Honestly the first few episodes had me thinking that it's one of those shows that's best enjoyed when you're 13, but I only watched one two episodes every few days and the series eventually grew on me again. If you keep your nostalgia/expectations in check, it's pretty fun as a casual watch.

The worldbuilding, right?? Like, they really didn't need to say much : Giant robot animals fighting, that's our point, and we don't care for anyone who doesn't care about giant robot animals fighting.

And they really stick to it. You don't need to ask questions because most things are answered, on some level, by the Zoids. They're the most major sports franchise, heavily involved with industrial production and R&D, and an unavoidably libertarian approach to maintaining peace, since these machines are also the main destructive powers of the world and all.

They're the whole military-industrial and socioeconomic matrices rolled into one. You never have to ask why people do x, or where they get y from. Heck, even the fashion statements are consistent.

I've never watched it, but somewhere around here I have a early 90's Demon lizard intact, a red kroc thing missing the tip of tail, and white rex thing. Thanks for reminding me of that nostalgia.

Not gonna lie those toys/models were epic for their time. Pretty sure the wind up/walk mechanism worms on the lizard, I just don't know where precisely I put em off hand.

I remember when they were literally stacked up in Walmart.
Even had some big ass ones like the bronto. I suppose my black and green lizard, copper and orange croc, and white rex are ok. But man, kinda wish I grabbed a cat or wolf. oh well.

That was a fun show. Like you I missed the finale when it was airing on CN because they fucked it over, but caught it on YouTube a couple months ago. Unlike you I really liked the Jaeger lol.
