But what I don't understand is... how they seemingly lack any foresight or ability to plan for more than the present day. They could have avoided a lot of backlash here if they just outright denied the developer the promise that they could sell on GOG, especially given the game's history already.

It should be illegal for any Media/Entertainment company to operate in China to prevent this kind of censorship.

Any US/EU company media/entertainment that doesnt cease operations in China should be fined their entire Chinese revenue x2 + an additional minimum fine.

Fuck the CPP. Fuck Winnie the Pooh.

Steam removed the game 2 years ago. People aren't going to be bashing steam for GOG's actions here.

And people were certainly mad about when Steam did this. In fact part of what makes this worse is that GOG was going to be another chance for this game to be sold after the whole Steam think.

Reading about it, what happened (at least outside of China) is that the publisher just broke ties with the developer and left the developer out to deal with the repercussions. They did edit out the offending content but it was still apparently not enough, so they pulled it themselves.

Sounds like a shitty publisher too lmao

Shame. It looked like a decent horror game. I saw a partial playthrough of it on OneyPlays. It must really suck for the devs to make a complete game and then you can't even sell it.

This sucks. Detention was great.

China needs to stop being so thin-skinned.

The leaders of the world need to take Xi to the side during the next G20 meeting and say "look, our citizens call us all sorts of names all the time and you don't see our countries collapsing. You can handle a few Winnie the Pooh jokes."

GOG was established to be the consumer rights beacon for digital storefronts, now here's the first red mark to stain it. It's sickening that they sneakily do this during the Cyberpunk fallout as if it wouldn't be noticed. CDPR needs to get it together or all goodwill evaporates overnight.
