Japan is a lot less squeamish when it comes to violence in kids shows.

Even the early seasons of Pokmon had things like guns before they just got rid of them entirely because they knew what 4kids didn't like the guns and even cut out an episode entirely because of guns. (The Dratini one. Which I don't get because they still left guns in other episodes.)

.....Although a better argument would be that Jesse and James using a shotgun (That "ice gun" from the Squirtle Squad episode. It was just a shotgun. The "snow" was sakura petals from the vase they shot to show the people they were robbing they meant business.) pretty much destroys the show because why the fuck don't they just use it against Ash?

But it should be noted older cartoons had no problems with guns neither. Granted, people forget that Looney Tunes were actually aimed at adults. (No, really. Made for adults and aired before movies.)

However it should be noted even American kids shows are becoming more liberal about death. Even for human characters. (In TMNT 2012, Leonardo flat out killed Shredder in their final battle. Even holds up Shredder's helmet as proof indicating he probably decapitated him to get the helmet off since Shredder was mutated at that point.)

Yeah. Compared to what we deem appropriate and innapropriate... Makes me wonder if Japanese kids are simply more capable of handling the more heavy stuff, or if we just coddle our kids too much? Or a little of both?

Yet weirdly enough Japan is very Conservitive. You can't tell by its animation though.

??? Doraemon was my childhood show and I don't recall this ever happening. Was this part of the new remakes? There were stuff like bank robbers with guns although that stuff isn't uncommon in western cartoons either. Like the Spongebob movie had executions and Plankton paying a hitman to assassinate "kids". Or the stuff in Invader Zim. 4kids just babied down anime even more than actual western cartoons. There's no better example than 4kids removing guns when the US is all about guns.

maybe it was a movie or something? I was just flipping through the channels. Animation didnt look like anything after 2000 but it didnt look especially old either.

i remember seeing that penguin in some of the videos but I dont think I saw anyone die lol. Did they change them? I dont use the subway much these days <_<
