great video based in MN. Essentially. Violent crime is up 20 percent in this area. 200+ people started a homeless encampment in a residential park, where people are actively using drugs and committing violence. The community agreed to not call the police on them until it reached a point they couldnt any longer.

Defunding has become too broad of a term. It's encompassing crazies who want zero police to people that think most officers shouldn't take statements and they should have a special person to do that and the accompanying paperwork.

People are so used to using and having police that other options seem impossible or not existent. Either way I don't see the problem with reforming them totally, but governments rarely seem to do that with any institution so it's not like TC has anything to worry about anyway.

more funding created a homeless liaison team here that has great number on helping eliminating homeless by providing resources and help with housing, a team with no proactive or arrest structure. Just straight homeless.

the recent shooting also over the news, the cops werent even armed with tasers. Money could get tasers

The allocation of the funding is important. When salt lake city gave every homeless person a free apartment, it ended up costing less money than having to pay for the problems caused by Vagrancy needing to be dealt with by police.

So you can cut that part out of the police budget and simultaneously fix homelessness without impacting the money the police need for other things and have a little extra spending cash to boot (maybe reinvest elsewhere in the police)

Everyone wins.
