Its weird I haven't read those, huh? But I just don't read comics in general

well anyways, I know occasionally he'll deal with a super. Afterall didn't he debut in a Spidey comic?

And IIRC Ghost Rider's Penance Stare doesn't work on him either

but my question is

like, has he ever dealt with like, a COSMIC being? Like Phoenix or something

I know they'll probably try NOT to make Punisher in their line of fire because not only thats not really his jurisdiction but ...he can't do much any ways

but it..must've come up before, right?

He was Cosmic Ghost Rider for a while and a Herald of Galactus.

He also got the War Machine armor for a while too.

Yeah Cosmic Ghost Rider came to mind immediately. It was in the Thanos Wins arc, I highly recommend it

He usually doesn't dip into that stuff in his own book, it's usually team books and crossovers where Frank interacts with the crazier parts of the marvel universe.

Like in Thunderbolts (which is where he tanked the Penance Stare) where he went to Hell with the team, among other places.

Yeah before Cosmic Ghost Rider (which isn't the main universe Frank, just to be clear) hadn't really come up against anyone totally Cosmic. Punisher did face off against Sentry (one of the most powerful Marvel characters, basically a psychotic Superman) during Dark Reign, and while he didn't defeat him, Punisher was actually able to hold him off and out-gambit Sentry to escape. It's a cool issue.

Not quite cosmic, but he recently killed a load of ice giants, then stole one of Thor's space goats to go on a killing spree across the universe to track down some that he missed.

Yeah, they've never been able to decide if the Penance Stare amplifies your internal guilt (which Frank should be able to avoid, he doesn't think he's doing anything wrong) or if it whammies you with the pain you've caused in life (which should fuck Frank sideways)

The internal guilt interpretation makes no sense considering that means it wouldn't work on the majority of evil assholes in comics.

Thanos gets hit with the pain version but doesn't work just because he gets off on it.

Having it not work on some people is fine, sure, but when you're supposed to be one of the most powerful entities in Marvel and your entire schtick is vengeance against evil, having your best ability able to be no sold by 90% of the very people you're supposed to punish just because they don't feel guilt is suspect as hell.

Pain version >>>>>>>>> guilt version.
