All you have to do is look at movies like Batman V Superman or Sucker Punch to know that injecting MORE Snyder into a film isnt gonna make it better or more substantive. The problem with justice league was never the director or editing. The problem is that it was poorly and hastily written and produced

I forgot what the plot of JL was and basically remember nothing.

I think one of my problems with JL is Cyborg and Flash were thrown in with no movies of their own for an introduction.

Its a problem with the X-Men movies too. They just constantly wanna jump into the big shit without understanding that nobody is going to care about these characters if we dont even know their non-superhero name yet.

Like how they desperately want a Dark Phoenix saga without any of the stuff leading up to it.

There is no way to do dark phoenix saga as a movie, no way at all. At least 20-30 minutes should be used to show the alternate future where dark phoenix hunts down the other xmen/mutants (and is currently hunting the last few), that should be the lead off on the saga, like it was with the comics, cause it was FREAKING COOL.

IF you don't do that, you are wasting so much awesomeness that there is no coming back from it.

The movie was a joke.

The version of Justice League they previously released may have been a disaster but I don't know why people think the Snyder Cut will be good when the other DC films he worked on were also disasters.

Unless you were one of the people who thought Batman vs Superman was awesome than I don't get why anyone has expectations for this.

That's not really what happened in the comics at all.

In the comics, Jean "dies" and is powered up as Phoenix (X-Men #100-101). Then they have the Shi'ar storyline where she shows off how powerful she is (X-Men #105-108). After that, she's mostly inconsequential until she's corrupted by Mastermind and the Hellfire Club (X-Men #132-134), which is what opens the door to her becoming Dark Phoenix. Then she goes crazy and blows up a star or two, the Shi'ar show up, condemn her to death, and she ultimately commits suicide (X-Men #135-137).

You could easily condense most of that down into a film or two. The Singer X-Men movies were setting it up effectively enough before Ratner came in and nose-dived the franchise into the ground. And Apocalypse/Dark Phoenix's biggest problem was that Sophie Turner isn't a very good actress (oh, and the terrible, terrible writing).

Basically, going with three act structure, your first Act has to be Jean getting wonky, the second Act is Jean going dark, and the third Act is them having to stop her. It would definitely feel a bit rushed, and would make her the main focus of the film at the expense of the team dynamic, but it could be done well enough (though it would probably work much better as the overarching story of a trilogy, or as part of a TV show - a la the X-Men cartoon in the 90s doing it as a 5-parter).

The dark future storyline doesn't show up at all in X-Men until after Jean's dead (X-Men #141-142), and it had nothing to do with Jean (she's already dead in that timeline). The only real connection to her is that her daughter Rachel winds up becoming a major character (and later becomes the new Phoenix - though she's one of those characters who seems to have a hard time settling on a single definitive codename).
