I didn't really enjoy it.

I liked it. But it made the same mistake that other series have of trying to be a "reboot" while also holding on to as many of its old characters as possible and therefore creating a middle ground that would make no one happy, because those who wanted something fresh were forced to stay stuck to the past, and those who liked the past just get annoyed that there's a taste of what they liked, but covered in all the new stuff they don't.

What tarnished it for me is that original show was wrapped up so well. It's one of the few long running shows that got a fitting / satisfying ending. So to then bring it back, it detracted from the ending for me.

The other thing is semi-linked. Scrubs ending was due to declining funding which is why Season 8 was filmed differently and had each cast member opt out of some episodes to save money. So then to bring it back after axing funding just grated me.

Like you said, if you were bringing it back you basically needed a clean break from the original cast. You could have gotten away with maybe a guest appearance here and there or maybe 1 of them staying around but not as much as they relied on them in season 9. It also detracts from the original show by basically changing the roles of the original cast, that isn't the ending we thought they got.

Dave Franco was the only worthwhile addition.

Drew and Lucy were terrible.

Denise was fine but technically she was a season 8 holdover.

Dave Franco worked because they wrote the character to his acting strength, and yeah, the rest just...didnt work.

I agree with this but also its good it was cancelled so Eliza Coupe could do Happy Endings which was obviously way better than Med School.

Honestly the sensible thing (outside of recasting Drew and Lucy) was to just have Cox as a bridge instead of using all the old characters either in roles too limited to add to the show or actually taking too much up of the show to develop it's own headway.

Like, the final episode featuring JD was literally the lowest of the series. Maybe there was something mitigating that caused it to be so low, but I really feel like after saying goodbye to the character, bringing him back to try and get ratings was just pointless.

I think the sensible thing would have been to get him there for the final episode of the season (which was originally planned for more episodes).
