i used to play waaaay back in high school but it wasn't something i took seriously -- it was more just an excuse to get high with my friends. i revived the sport at the start of quarantine because it was an outdoor activity i can do solo and now i'm super into it.

my drive is easily the weakest part of my game. i have a hard time keeping the nose down when i throw hard. i feel like my mid-game is pretty strong and i got a solid short game but it def needs some work. i even got a basket for the back yard to practice putts / short game.

Weed and disc golf mix so damn good. Most the community is the good end of potheads.

discs are relatively cheap! you can find solid "starter set"s with a driver, mid-range and putter for $20-$50 (varies by quality). once you have discs the costs are super low b/c most courses are free! if you're near central Ohio HMU and i'll throw a round with ya.

yeah its like bowling and beer. or regular golf and beer i guess. almost everyone i encounter on the courses is good people. friendly and courteous about letting faster groups play through, almost always good vibes out there.

I played a lot up until this year as my local course underwent a massive renovation that still isn't done. Should be nice when it is but idk how long it'll be due to covid.

I have discs and live a mile away from courses that I run past every day but I never play. I am dumb.

Been playing fairly regularly the past several summers, and a whole bunch this year for some social distancing fun. I think I'm alright - also not great at getting good distance with a stable shot, but overhand throws are very reliable for my tee shots when possible. Our course has a lot more elevation change and trees than any I've played on down south (Alaskan here) so there's not always room to get the elevation for those. Usually hover at or just above par playing the basic tees.

But yeah, mainly just some good fun outdoors with a beer and bowl or two.

my home/main course got hit HARD by that ash bore weevil thing or w/e that went through my state like 10 years ago. seriously like half of the trees on the fairways were cut down. new ones have been planted but it'll be like 5-10 years before they're worthy obstacles.

do it do it do it

i recommend practicing in a field or something first, especially if the course has thick / tall roughs lining the fairways. hunting for discs in tall grass or bushes is, easily, the least enjoyable part of the game.

for a long time my problem with drives was my grip. i started using a "power grip" (look it up) and it really helped my distance. i also watch instructional videos on driving technique / form and they've helped me a lot too. i think my most significant problem right now is my follow-through, or lack of.

i can overhand throw it when i really need to but i am terrible about power and accuracy. i also really need to learn how to make it land flat so it doesn't roll like 30 feet <_<

Yeah, some day I'll get around to caring enough to really try to improve my technique, lol.

Maybe it's from a lifetime of playing baseball/softball, but I just can't comfortably put much power on a backhand throw, while my forehands are fine and the overhand is really natural for me.

My other recent problem is that I lost the driver that I've loved using for years, then lost my backup driver. Need to buy a new one, just using a mid-range for now.

I would say the form of a backhand disc throw is closer to a golf swing than a frisbee throw. It's all about generating torque and getting the timing right between legs, hips, and shoulders.

But as a right-hander, it's also more akin to a left-handed golf/baseball swing.

I always wanted to, but never found a community for it. I tossed frisbees around constantly when I was a kid, and I always thought it was something I'd be really good at. But alas.

/r/discgolf

just go to a course, hang out for a bit and ask if you can tag along with someone. i was really surprised at how many courses are close to me. I have like 20 within a 30-40 minute drive.
