Unambiguously the best game of the decade and a complete masterpiece. I can't imagine anyone disagreeing except just to be a contrarian.

1996: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
I remember borrowing this from my friend Andrew for a few days. I bought a copy off of Ebay that week. Perfection.

2008: Devil May Cry 4
2008 could be called the year of disappointment. MGS4, Spore, Fallout 3, ugh. DMC4 wins by default, even though its literally incomplete.

2007: Team Fortress 2
On release, this was an example of a perfect video game. I dont know what became of it later with patches, though.

2010: Xenoblade Chronicles
XC is the only game on this list Ive only played once and will probably never play again. Its good, but long.

Tetris blows absolutely everything else in the 80s out of the water. I cant even think of anything else to say here.

Pff Night Trap is great. But obviously there are better games released in 1992.

What if DMC, but way more complicated, sexy hair witches, and with a nonsense time-travel plot? My kind of game, broseph.

Wakka, wakka, bro. What else even came out in 1980? Berzerk? Missile Command? Star Castle? Get out of here with that nonsense.

I know its the worst of the classic SMBs, but I have a special place in my heart for this awkward game.

AKA the good one. Resident Evil 4 kinda ruined the series by being too good and influencing later games to be terrible.

Sorry, I havent played most games from this year, and I simply refuse to give the title to Overwatch or Civilization 6.

2003: F-Zero GX
F-Zero will probably never get another game again. If it does, itll certainly have a controller gimmick that ruins the entire game.

2014: Bayonetta 2
2014 is a fairly weak year, which lets Bayonetta 2 squeak in to get another victory, which is probably not super deserved.

2000: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
My actual favorite game of all time. Voice acting, strategy, spells, fantasy, its got it all. Flawed, but the best game ever.

As if it could be anything else. No game will ever again have this level of influence, and no game ever could.

1998: Metal Gear Solid
The absolute most stacked year in history. I could choose like twelve different games for GOTY. MGS1 is almost an arbitrary choice.

This is Final Fantasy at its most Final Fantasy. The series basically had to do weird stuff after this to justify existing.

1999: Super Smash Bros.
Picture this: I go to Joshs house, he has this hot new game. He gives me a broken controller. I win anyway.

2006: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
I hate giving the GOTY to TP, but what else is there here? FFXII? Bully? TP scores an undeserved victory by default.

Galaga is the only video game my dad is better at than me. I tried for years to beat him, and failed.

1982: Nibbler
I really like Snake games, sorry. 1982 is not a strong year, so a Snake game will do really well in it.

For me, its Fighter / Fighter / Red Mage / White Mage, but youre free to have your own preferences. Thief sucks.

2012: FTL: Faster Than Light
The best Star Trek video game of all time. Why does Star Trek have such bad games? SW doesnt have this problem.

2004: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
I wonder how much of MGS brilliance is genuine, and how much if Kojima being insane and terrible and mistaken for brilliant.

2013: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Although Kojima eventually lost control and understanding of his own creation, Platinum didnt. Fantastic boss fights, great Codecs, fun, well-written game. Magnifique.

1995: Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger was, is, and will forever be the definitive JRPG. Once you finish playing it, thats basically it for the genre.

1989: Minesweeper
In the ultimate battle of Minesweeper vs Solitaire, Minesweeper sweeps the competition easily. I cant believe they eventually removed the victory sunglasses.

2001: Final Fantasy X
As the last good Final Fantasy, FFX has everything except a world map and final weapons that dont take forever to get.

2018: The Messenger
Play this game without looking it up. Theres a twist halfway through that blew my ****ing mind. Please dont look it up.

2011: Portal 2
A hair weaker than the original, but up against weaker competition, Portal 2 is a good game. Thats about it, though, sorry.

Is this the first game to depict booze? Probably not, but its the first one I remember. Got featured in Wreck-It Ralph.

Holds the distinction of being the only game on this list I beat, but couldnt beat twice. ****ing Death boss battle, man.

I am garbage at this game, but I loved it as a kid. I only played on PC, not the SNES one.

2002: Neverwinter Nights
Kind of a weak year, but NWN offered player-created campaigns and dungeons when nothing else did. Its almost a proto-MMORPG. Good game.

1994: Earthbound
This was actually my first JRPG other than Pokemon Blue, so as a kid, I didnt understand a lot of its humor.
