I looked on Snapchat and saw the story of an old classmate from high school who is now a police officer. In response to the protests and riots, he said "Since all of us cops are bad and you people think protesting is the best way to handle the situation, don't expect us cops to come to your aid the next time someone shoots up the Oregon District again. If you can protest and riot, then you can defend yourselves against shooters."

By Oregon District, he's referring to the shooting in my city that took place last year. In Dayton, Ohio, on August 4, 2019, a mass shooting took place. A man opened fire into a crowd of people at a bar killing 9 individuals and wounding 17. Responding police officers fatally shot him 32 seconds after he started firing on people.

It's very disturbing for a police officer to say this. I used to hang around this guy back then before he became an officer. When I knew him, he was pretty cool and kind of a goofy dude. Don't know what changed. He deleted the Snapchat not too long after he posted it.

Don't Oregon police have an extensive history of working with violent right-wing hate groups?

That's a great idea.

This is Dayton, Ohio. The Oregon District is a neighborhood in the city that houses nightclubs, pubs, art galleries, etc.

The cops who react this way are such fucking babies. Wah, you don't want me to maim and kill innocent people so I'm just not going to do my job at all! But I'll still get paid for it and I'm probably also complaining about people who collect welfare.

It's more like 'if you are going to fight me for protecting you, then I am not going to risk my life.'

Unsurprisingly, people react negatively by being lumped together with a horrid minority. I agree that reaction is childish, but maybe people should chill out with the ACAB shit if you don't want that kind of mentality to set in.

No police hold way more accountability here and people like you that hold them to pathetically low standards need to just be quiet.

Sorry that you're ok with watching law enforcement around the country thug it up.

What if? And this is a super crazy idea. The police responded to the anti police brutality protests with something other than police brutality?

Provide some actual statistics on the levels of brutality and adjust for what you think represents unreported/covered up accounts. This conversation always go nowhere because nobody can even estimate on what percentage of cops they're actually bitching about.

They're being fought for not protecting the people they're supposed to protect, and quite often doing the opposite. Don't get it twisted.

SOME are. I've seen FAR MORE 'sovereign citizens' etc that fight against cops for every little thing than I have seen cops abusing power. The media is playing us.

I've said it several times now - the police are NOT the problem. It is the system. If a cop is constantly beaten down emotionally and mentally, what happens to them? They snap and 'take it out.' They are HUMAN. We need to look into better mental wellness programs for officers. I am sure that by ensuring the cops are able to practice self-care, burn out would not happen as frequently resulting in less abuse from officers.

Should have screen shotted it and sent it out to local media and organizers.

Some people already screenshotted and are going to report it from what I've been told. Whether or not there are consequences will remain to be seen but he definitely needs to apologize for saying something so incredibly stupid.
