A mall near me is reopening to the public in a few days. And yet people in the comment section of Facebook are like "Too soon" or "Reckless" or "only fools would go to the mall right now". This is AFTER the stay at home order has ended in my state.

So what, everyone is supposed to stay at home for the rest of the year? The line of thinking that everyone needs to stay home until a vaccine gets created in 800 years is ridiculous.

According to CE, we should hide until 2021, and watch the world burn. These people don't have families or responsibilities, obviously.

Waiting hours in a lineup with tons of other people so you can cram into Walmart or Costco like sardines = sweet man

Going to your local mom and pop store or other sparsely populated specialty shop with minimal foot traffic = douchebag

If you want to shop TC do it. Just wear a mask and gloves and you are good. People seem to forget people actually work at these stores and by avoiding them it just puts more people out of work.

This pandemic was all but certain to bring upon us something akin to old sitcom plots:

1) person is badly sick and needs attentive care

2) person starts feeling better, but likes the attentive care

3) person acts like they're worse off than they are to milk the attentive care as long as possible.

Fauci could sound the all clear himself and they''d still start making excuses for more stimulus rather than face the big bad world.

Malls are about to attract so many people when they open. The Marshalls at the mall here opened today and I had a friend in the checkout line for 1.5 hours. He told me it was 100% necessary for him to shop there and I didn't ask

If a mall reopens now, it better be in areas that can handle a huge outbreak. Too many people are bored and looking to get out (which is a huge reason parks+beaches got packed with people quickly). People want to just be selfish and not realize all it takes is one sick person to infect many. Hoping the mall has rules in place- limits of a few people in a store at once, mask requirements and/or security to make bigger groups disperse.

It's rough out there, but it's just going to keep being the cycle of- reopen for a tiny bit, close, reopen and close until a cure/vaccine happens. Many hospitals aren't prepared. Many people STILL haven't been tested, etc. Life is much better than profits, period.

Because people hide behind alts.

Hundreds of people are still dying a day in the US. Open non-essential businesses or what have you, but malls, cinemas, stadiums, concert halls etc. - anywhere where you're shoulder to shoulder with dozens of other people for hours on end - should absolutely stay closed for the time being.

Australia's been lucky enough to have like 100 deaths in total, over the course of months. We're opening stuff up in waves - restaurants and cafes are opening soon, then I think cinemas and stuff etc. And we still don't have plans to open the pubs back up. Meanwhile the US is rapidly approaching 100,000 deaths in total and it shows no sign of slowing down, and y'all want to start opening malls and shit.

The lockdown order is lifting, but there's still a heightened chance of transmission in your neck of the woods compared to everywhere else in the world - and letting people flood into malls and shit is just asking for more people to get sick and flare the coronavirus up again. So yeah, it is too soon, and people are right to be bothered by it.

Literally the one main and possibly only way for the disease to spread is by having microscopic residues of the virus that reside in the infected transmitted to others by even something as minimal as speaking. The other way is to touch something that could contain the virus and eventually make its way inside the body somehow, which is easy to do because humans have uncontrollable habits. Human proximity pretty much makes you more susceptible to the disease about a hundred folds. It's just not worth it. If you have to ask yourself why we can't go to the mall, you're probably... not capable of thinking in general

technology has certainly got to the point where it's doable without a huge inconvenience. we've never been more equipped to stay at home as we are now.

If it's a mall that just has a Penny's left as its only anchor, and everything else is gone except GNC and a Gamestop, you'll be fine.

There are a few malls in my area, one is usually heavily packed and the others aren't.

If they were all to reopened right now I would not be afraid to go to those other ones.
