There will always be cases of this virus somewhere out there from now. It will never get to 0. So if you want to wait until the virus is eradicated from the Earth, you will literally be waiting forever. The only alternative is phased reopenings so I suggest you learn to accept it sooner than later.

No shit, but there is a time to start doing it. That's not that hard to understand. Yes it's impractical to wait until it's eradicated, but maybe wait until you aren't losing 3,000 people a day before you decide to add even more risk to the situation. For some places in the States were are just now getting past the peak, how about you wait a little bit and let the fucking decline show some more signs of things improving before you decide to open the floodgates.

But you don't care, it's either keep things shut or open it up. The world isn't black and white like that, its not all or nothing. Yes we need to open up before a vaccine, yes we need to open up in the near future, but that doesn't mean right now is the ideal situation. Fact is you can't find any epidemiologist to go one record to condone opening up right now. On the other hand you can find plenty of economists saying we shouldn't open up yet. That should tell you all you need to know.

I don't even agree with the media when it comes to virus and I even think it is dumb af to just reopen right now.

Most people talking about "Phased reopening" are really saying "Phased reopenings now"

Which isn't something we have to accept.

TC, with this topic, are you talking about phased reopening things in the future or phased reopening now?

I support phased reopenings once our healthcare workers aren't facing supply shortages, and we have a thorough testing program in place. Overwhelming our hospitals is still a major risk.

ok, as long as it comes with bolstered healthcare and mass testing, oh and full understanding that rolling out reopenings will absolutely cause multiple outbreaks that'll likely require re-closing everything to manage them...

Whenever they're ready. I'm in Canada and we've had some provinces who have literally had 0 new cases for a week now. Should we keep them closed like Quebec which is seeing almost 1000 new cases a day and at the peak? And when Quebec starts declining and is at <100 cases a day and going down, or whatever the judgement that's made on that is, they should start having a plan to reopen put into place as well.

I'm ok with phased reopenings, but I'm concerned we don't have the broad testing ability to do so at the moment. I mean California is the only state currently testing asymptomatic people, and they just started doing it. That seems like something that needs to be up and running before we consider opening states up.

Well yeah, everyone on the other side agrees that when it's responsible it's a good idea to reopen. It's just most people bringing it up now seem to want it now.

If we stay closed for 6 months, the only businesses left will be the essential businesses that had stayed open. Goodbye theaters, zoos, theme parks, electronics shops, clothing stores, repair shops, etc.

You might as well rename America the United States of Amazon. Anything that isn't a food item will have to come from them.

Let the curve hit some low point, then phase. No one is opposed to this. The continued suggestions by certain political figures that this could happen within a month is routinely contradicted by medical health experts.

You think you're making a point here, but you're not. No one thinks we're peaking forever, and that an extended high period has extended to at least a week doesn't mean anyone believes or implies that it's going to last forever.

Buy gift cards from the places you support on a regular basis. They get the money now, you get the experience at a later date. Problem averted.

Unfortunately there's this mindset that if you want something to be true you just need to believe it hard enough, and to believe it hard it enough you just have to say it enough. And Donald Trump is their king.

oregon just hit the peak date. they racked up 5 deaths.
hopefully the numbers go down so there's a minor lifting of the lockdown restrictions (would take fast food reopen for carryout and beach access again).

if only the folks from washington wouldn't arrive in this town just yet. hotels, vacation homes, almost all businesses are closed.

You can't say we are at the top for sure, but it's the best estimate. You take issue with the weather channel being off about weather?

What we really need is every bank thing making profits off of rent should be suspended and then all people having to pay rent get like a month off.

The struggling small businesses need help, they almost had the right idea except they ran out of money and didn't make sure big businesses didn't take advantage.
