I told you cases would be on the downturn in the last half of April and things would reopen

I was attacked fucking relentless on here by the doom-mongers who insisted it would be peaking in July and then followed by an 18 month complete lock down

So, yeah.

So some states are having less active cases day over day. And in a lot of states the cases have peaked or are just beyond the peak and beginning to go down the second half of the curve.

Tests are still not wide spread and readily available.

Re opening slowly is ideal and will happen but cases will spike again. This isnt going away until a vaccine is found or it runs its course through the population.

No. Testing is higher than it's ever been. Also a criteria to reopen is to have a very robust testing ability...this is what I'm saying, you guys aren't reading the fucking information you're hearing news sound-bites like "TRUMP THE MADMAN REOPENS COUNTRY TO APPEASE THE SHAREHOLDERS" then come on here and spout your bullshit

'Cause I'm pretty sure here in Canada we're gonna get "two more weeks'd" at least until the end of the year. If anything, the measures seem to be growing in severity.

Yeah I'm in Ontario, Canada. I'm sure what you're seeing in the USA with this phased approach will pretty much be the same here in Canada. You've been hearing murmurings about phased reopenings in Ontario/Toronto for a while now and this seems like the most intelligent model to go by. We seem to have peaked here so we won't reopen yet we need more time to start seeing the trend go down which going by what's happened in other places will probably be in the next 2-4 weeks.

Yeah 18 month might come true because a re-opening is gonna cause a 2nd wave and we'll have essentially reset the timer for the minimum required lockdown to make this situation manageable. The sheer amount of death and the larger scope of lockdown required will most likely cause an even greater economic collapse.

Obviously it'd be great if we re-open, and somehow magically everything will be ok without a vaccine. Trump will just keep injecting untested poison into our bodies

I don't think society would be able to sustain an 18-month lockdown. A lot of shit is already crumbling after a month and a half

I give it 5 to 6
You're going to see things reopening into phase 1 when they've met the 14 day trend criteria, influenza like symptom criteria and testing criteria. It'll be different for different areas of the country and whenever that is, it will be that. There's no predetermined date but a lot of areas should be able to reach phase 1 by the summer if they've been serious about the mitigation.

Less cases = people reopening stuff, people will go out.. and it will spread again. Not as bad, but in some areas.. I wouldn't be surprised if it's still pretty bad. Many people don't have face masks, many people still don't think it's a serious issue and other factors.

People want "normal" back in their lives, but likely don't want to understand that this is still serious. No cure, no vaccine means it could come back several more times if people aren't super careful. I don't see how businesses will enforce it, there isn't enough security to be hired. Limits on how many people enter a building have worked somewhat in places- but I doubt it will work everywhere.

Too many people care about profits over health, and its unfortunate. I hope more people are keeping track of the safer companies right now, it's a good time to not shop at places that aren't being safe.

My concern is that the non-problem states are instead gonna become problem states. Then you have shitholes like Michigan where Trump supporters are not wearing masks and gathering in large groups, blocking up streets so ambulances can't do their jobs, protesting to open up the state despite having the 4th largest infection rate and the 3rd largest death rate so...

It's possible a lot of states will open prematurely, and this situation will undoubtedly get worse than any short term economic recession can justify.
