Outside of the US, Netflix will be streaming all the ghibli films. Not in the US though.

https://www.gq.com/story/netflix-studio-ghibli-oops

While American Netflix has some solid foreign entries in its catalogue, Studio Ghibli's movies won't be among them. HBO, it turns out, has already acquired the American streaming rights for Studio Ghibli. And even if you already subscribe to HBO Go or HBO Now, you still won't be able to see them: those movies will only be available on the premium HBO Max, a third, more luxe streaming service from HBO slated to debut this coming May.

Goddamn why the fuck are there three fucking content tiers for a streaming service?

The only tiers should be

"Cheap AF but has ads"

and

"Less cheap but no ads"

It's not really a tier system.

HBO Now and HBO Go are the same thing. Just different ways to access HBO, the channel.

HBO Max is AT&T's Time Warner streaming service which has everything AT&T owns. They're just branding it as HBO, since Time Warner owns them and it's already popular in the streaming game.

People stopped pirating as much cause Netflix was cheap and centralized the content when compared to Cable or buying separate movies. Now that it is back to the way it was, people are gonna pirate more.

This post is a good example of why you should read and do research before making a post. HBO Go is a service where you already get HBO through your cable provider, HBO now is its separate streaming service, with all the same content as Go, but you just pay $15
HBO Max has all the content of HBO now, plus more, and is the same price, and if you're already subscribed you get HBO max anyway.

And to add insult to injury, they will be making two tiers of HBO max, one with ads and one without ads

Yeah. As long as you're paying HBO directly and not going through like Amazon or Hulu for it I believe you're good. I'm not exactly sure how it works with cable providers but I assume HBO Max would be packaged with HBO.

That being said I personally think separately branding Max is fucking dumb as hell.

Doesn't Disney release their films in physical format? I was hoping that they would've shown up on Disney+ at some point but I guess not.

Be happy someone does. For years Gkids wouldn't pet anyone stream the Ghibli movies as they thought limited Theater releases were the way to go.

Disney held the DVD rights until 2017 but now Gkids has them. They focus mainly on releasing foreign animated films in theaters for limited releases but also release the stuff on DVD.

i guess i was just basing it off of the "moral pirates" i see here. whenever someone brings up "piracy is theft", it's not long before you have people justifying themselves with things like "i would support it officially. i only pirate because it's out of production and i shouldn't have to pay the resale value. it doesn't hurt them anyways since it's no longer distributed"

Thanks. I haven't bought one of their films in several years so I didn't realize Disney didn't have the rights anymore.

That's a totally legitimate point and you know it. Buying media second hand is not morally superior to pirating, it's worse.
