I'm talking about games/series that are VASTLY superior on a PC for reasons that include:

-requiring a mouse and/or keyboard for the best playing experience
-necessitating mods/patches/expansions that only a PC can provide
-being the overall optimal port in terms of graphics/mechanics/whatever

Please let me know your reasoning and feel free to list out some obvious ones like any RTS game, SimCity, etc.

I am going to use this topic when I finally build my own...

The game is unplayable on consoles you need a mouse and keyboard

Source me who has played the game hundreds and hundreds of hours on PC and ps4

Yeah I know that's the "right" answer, but I only mean games that are virtually pointless to own on console.

Like a few months ago I said I was going to play Skyrim on PS3 because the game came with my system and everyone flipped the fuck out on me for even considering anything but the PC version.

IMO at least (because I know some people would disagree about the last for one), Minecraft, Terraria, and Stardew Valley all have vastly superior controls using a mouse/keyboard compared to a controller. On top of that, while mods are far from necessary to enjoy each of those games, they're there if you want to delve into them on PC, but not other versions.

I can't say much beyond that, because there's not many games I've played both on PC and on console.

Any games with huge overworlds that cause a lot of lag.

Things like say Skyrim and the like played far better on PC, not just graphically but things like saves and loads would be practically cut in half.

Skyrim
Overwatch
Mayyyyybe Monster Hunter World? It plays a LOT better on PC, but doesn't have the same community.

Those are all games that I played on console and re-bought when I got a new pc.

Starcraft is the best answer ever.

Any real time strategy game really. But that N64 port was PUTRID.
Haha yeah. I assume any RTS or city builder game would be horrendous without a mouse.

Skyrim not entirely for performance as much as Skyrim for gameplay mods because unmodded Skyrim is junk.

Nothing else to add think everything else has been covered

Doom has a good port on XBL imo. Assume Wolfenstein has something similar somewhere.

I guess if you're one of those people who swear by mouse for FPS but I'm not.

A few different categories.

Games that need the more precise and better control scheme. Things like FPS and RTS rule this category, although there are exceptions, mostly things that are single player focused. DOOM and Titanfall 2 have some of the best FPS campaigns in the history of shooters, and if that is all you want for your experience, they're absolutely fine on consoles. Portal is another exception where you don't need precise control because it's a puzzle game first, everything else second. And if you find yourself playing a single player game which clearly needs a controller (like the new Star Wars game), most controllers are plug and play. Just buy a wired Xbox One controller and it takes 15 seconds to set up through a USB.

Games that run poorly because of how much shit is going on. The Just Cause series doesn't need precise control because it's easy, but getting constant slowdown or FPS locking because you can't run it as it's meant to be played really hampers the gameplay. Same with something like The Witcher 3, which has a ton of technical issues on consoles that it really isn't worth your time to play it on not PC. I haven't played Control yet but I hear it falls in this boat of clearly not being optimized for consoles.

And finally, of course, are games that you can mod like crazy. Most open world games fit this bill - I can't even imagine playing any Bethesda game not on PC. Once you start, it's impossible to not want to mod it. Even Skyrim which runs 'fine' on consoles had so many issues fixed right out the gate with PC modding. Inventory fixes, control stuff, animation stuff, etc. It took about 15 minutes of my time to fix so many issues the game had just in terms of quality of life stuff.

I won't make an entire list of stuff you should play, but if you think of a game and think it might fall into any of the above categories, it's probably something that should be played on PC. The final thing I can think of is the multiplayer aspect of it (PC gets updated first, can have dedicated servers, generally bigger player base, higher skill cap, etc) but that's not really do or die unless you plan on playing the game long term. Consoles are fine when a game releases - if you love something so much you'll be playing it for years, PC it is.

A+ post

I don't post much about it because I enjoy consoles, but I am firm in the PC master race boat for 80% of games that are released. It doesn't take long to realize just how much better a platform it is for new releases and specific genres.

Portal 1 and 2 both have a bunch of custom chambers via the community which I don't think you can play on console.

Even though Portal is a puzzle game, I still appreciated the precision you get with mouse and keyboard, particularly when trying out a few challenges. It just feels a lot better in my opinion.

this is a fair point, I just never got too far into the games to want to play custom chambers when the original games are so tight and just long enough to get my fill

Are there any non-RTS/non-point and click adventure/non-city builder games that require super precise controls with a mouse?
