Pokemon = cute and homogenous style and tone. Kept Ash forever.
Yugioh had conclusion and definite power scaling, had sequels that were necessarily less iconic, had changing tones and styles and moods because of that. Yugioh's game was based on a successful IP, Pokemon is a successful media empire based off universally acclaimed and approachable games. Too many new mechanics and the banlists are rotated around what's wanting to be sold

Yugioh could've gotten big but at a certain point it became an absolute clusterfuck. 2013-2014~ ruined the game.
