The amount of money people blow on shit they don't need is astounding:

- Video games: completely unnecessary
- Expensive entertainment (movies, tv, netflix etc)
- Designer clothes. I know a guy who wore the same walmart shirt for 5 years. Meanwhile there's people who buy new $100 shirts every month
- Expensive food. You can get a pile of bread and a big vat of butter to last you like 2-3 weeks for only $15
- Cars - you can walk, bike, transit etc.
- Money wasted on sports/other hobbies

Most of you on here would have more money than you know what to do with if you followed this advice

There is a happy medium. If you bust your ass, sometimes you have to treat yourself to something nice. I'm an ironworker, we do some crazy shit, and every now and then we'll stop at a steakhouse or a sushi restaurant on the way back and drop a bunch of money on some quality food.

Partly true. There are many people in poverty not due to how much they make but due to their own bad choices.

You can see I've upset a few people in this thread who posted earlier who were likely binge shopping on the internet when they came across this thread

Our society is completely built on consumerism. A t-shirt costs more just because it was made by a certain "brand" and people start associating with these brands. I never understood this. I have bought cheap stuff and expensive stuff when it comes to clothing and I couldn't tell the difference. They were just expensive because of the name attached to them. I wasted some money on such things when I was a kid and I now I don't care about them.

Some of this is also driven by jealousy or competitiveness. If people around someone has an expensive phone then that person would want to buy an even more expensive phone just because their friends have it.

If I didnt get a chance to spend and enjoy money, why would I work hard to earn it?

Brand Names tend to be a real waste of money if the material is on the same level, always research clothing brands ALWAYS. Luckily this generation seems to be catching onto that, and you noticed these expensive clothing stores tend not to sell very well (especially in the malls).

It is also one of the most wasteful industries which right now there is push for laws to stop some of their practices.
