I read that as that in Montana its considered child assault to not remove your own hat during the national anthem and I found it perfectly believable.

But the story is more gross.

The state requested his bond be set to $100,000, however the judge ruled Brockway can be released on his own recognizance.

note that this man is currently on probation for an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

but, hey, you're a white guy in Montana with a military style haircut and you're defending your "patriotism" with violence? leniency granted.

yea the This is not Brockways first run in with police. He pleaded guilty to an assault with a weapon charge that occurred in 2011.

just proves he should be locked up for life

Yeah removing the hat is a custom, not a law. It should never be a law either. Publicly enforcing customs like some Taliban decency mob is sick.

Also:

A Mineral County man has been charged with assault of a minor for slamming a child to the ground during the national anthem at the Mineral County fairgrounds.

WTF?

The 13-year-old boy was flown to Spokane after receiving temporal skull fractures in the incident that happened at the Mineral County Fairgorunds.

Witnesses tell MTN News that Curt Brockway grabbed, picked up and slammed the boy on the ground because he did not remove his hat during the national anthem.

The parents tell us the child was bleeding from his ear for nearly six hours after the incident.

I mean, if you have the force to pick a kid up and slam him down, you probably have the force to just... take the hat off his head really quickly instead of potentially causing permanent brain damage or even death.

I don't get people man.

So he basically piledrived the kid. Im guessing alcohol was also involved. This guy should do some serious time.

I'm no expert but I thought one of the rules of violating probation is that if you fuck up, you go straight back to jail - since you got a break and shouldn't be out anyway.

I'm not going to lie, even though I read the OP and I read the article, I assumed it was his own kid. That was the only thing that remotely made sense in my mind, because I couldn't understand how a grown ass adult could even try to justify attacking a kid otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I condemn *all* violent acts like this, but like what the fuck.

But what if, and I have no way of knowing this and admit this is going to the extreme, the kid wasn't being disrespectful or showing bad manenrs? What if he had cancer or some kind of thing where the hat is for some health-related purpose?

Pretty sure that would still technically be assault, and should still result in him returning to jail if he's out on probation.

Lol not sure how'd that work. But nah, meant death penalty SHOULD be the verdict, but if he gets off light, he should get 20 years in prison.

So some guy decided to crush a teenagers skull because he wouldn't take his hat off during the national anthem?

This guy needs to get the death penalty.

He has a history of violence, including pointing a handgun at an entire family during a road rage incident.

People like this are dangerous.

I am not surprised he confronted a child because many real adult men probably would have beat him senseless.

This guy is braindead.

My heart goes out to the poor kid going through all this suffering just because so many racist pieces of shit are allowed to act with impunity in this country.

Wait, what? So how the fuck did he not get thrown in jail immediately after being released RoR for violating his probation/parole? Hes literally being charged with nearly the same crime as he was on probation for committing...

I know people who have gotten far worse for bullshit misdemeanor charges/probation violations that arent related to the initial charge in any way shape or form. This dude either knows somebody, or has an attorney that knows the judge and prosecutor...meaning im insinuating corruption.

Yeah I misread and thought it was his own son, because that's the only thing that remotely made sense to me. Still would have been fucked up, as I can't imagine assaulting your own child like that either, but I especially can't comprehend how you could just do it to a stranger.
