That's got to be a pretty big check if they got him to take a machine gun to the foot like that.

Blevins says that the move is meant to bring him back to his roots, as he got his start as a gaming celebrity back with Halo which is also owned by Microsoft.

Wow this is the biggest reach to justify getting a paycheck I've ever seen.

Kinda wonder what'll happen if he's playing Fortnite with Lupo or other twitch streamers. Is he just going to stop doing that or something?

Seeing that his subscribers are down from 285k to 15k makes me wonder if he doesn't think twitch is worth it anymore? I'm pretty sure he gets most of his views on Youtube so idk.

i'd assume the idea is that while it is 15k now, it will grow.

that's like saying someone who joined facebook back when it first came out and myspace was bigger was losing subscribers or w/e.

Those numbers are just subscribers on twitch dropping. He's not going from 285k on twitch to 15k on mixer. His numbers have just dropped on twitch from 285k to 15k.

But it's not growing. He's lost 270k subscribers in the past year. And with Mixer's much smaller user base, he's going to have to bring over a ton of people to even hit that over there.

Well I don't think he's been streaming as much as he was and I think Fortnite popularity isn't necesarily dropping but I think it leveled off at least. I think he mentioned once that he was out of town for a week and he lost 40k subscribers or something. They come and go so easily it seems.

I think it has something to do with how they initially brought Twitch Prime on to the platform, or something of that nature. Basically, that super high number not comparable to current numbers. According to TwitchStats.net, the top accounts have approximately 35,000 subscribers. Ninjas ~15,000 subscibers is good for 13th overall on the platform.

It seems like the initial 285k was inflated.

I think the industry is moving towards those 10 minute edited youtube videos that can be monetized

Just look at his YouTube. 15k subscribers but his videos still hit a few million views in a few days? I'm not worried for him

Yeah, subscribers would have topped out at 285k, almost entirely off of the back of Twitch Primes subs, which have to be manually renewed monthly for whichever streamer you'd like to use it on.

I don't think this will end up being a smart move, but I can see why he might feel compelled to do it, especially if he isn't willing to treat streaming as a full-time job anymore, which you effectively need to do to achieve anything like a consistent income. It can be lucrative, but viewers (and people willing to subscribe to you) are notoriously fickle if you aren't keeping to a regular streaming schedule. It sounds like Ninja's core subscription i.e. people on rolling subscriptions, was a very small slice of the overall pie and more in line with other popular streamers. If you've been at the crest of the wave, as he as, I can understand taking a punt elsewhere if you don't think figures are going to return that way (and he'd be right, they won't). I just don't think Mixer is the answer either.

I guess the risk isn't too low because if Mixer fails he could always just eat hat and go back to Twitch after a year.

Twitch and other social media platforms are not sustainable business. At least whatever fucking money he's making. I caution streamers all the time that any income made is off the back of everyone else. It is eventually a diminishing return on investment if you're seeking it for profit.

I don't know the sponsorship deals someone like Ninja makes, but he is better off saving that shit now while he has marketability.

For those curious, Twitch takes half the revenue from bits and subs. Even if he's getting an obscene amount relative to everyone else, that is a harsh split (add in tax). I've heard Partners at least (I'm Affiliate myself), can negotiate for more, which I assume may have tried.

So he probably had a huge incentive to do so. Mixer is Microsoft based, so that would alienate some viewers and Fortnite players on other platforms. He had to take that into account. Outside of GTA Online, Fortnite STILL gets the most views
Who knows hpw long that lasts.

This was always rumored to happen due to Halo making him big in the first place. I remember seeing this last year around this time too.
