I saw the same therapist for a little over a year and made a lot of progress, but then I found a program that offered both individual counseling as well as group meetings, so I switched to that. After a few years I had gotten my depression under control and I've stopped the individual sessions. But I continue to go to the group meetings to sort of give back to the program that helped me turn my life around. I say go for it. There is no shame in asking for help.
