It made sense when I was younger and I'd only get a new game every few months but with my backlog I'm really just looking to beat it and move on. Seems like most people agree that XIII-2 is legitimately good so that's encouraging. There are a lot of cases in earlier games where the pure lack of direction is a pretty big detriment. In any case as a whole, the story of the trilogy is dumb. Like really dumb. The last game especially feels like a big fanfiction but it just has so many "fuck yeah" moments just packed into it that it doesn't really matter that much. The second game is good, but I feel like it was a big overcorrection of the complaints of the first game. Like I don't really think XIII has a lot of charm to it and the plot, while being pretty cheesy at times, is very serious almost all the time with no comic relief moments. I haven't played it since it was released, to be fair, but I remember thinking it was average for the most part while playing it, with some enjoyable moments, and then looking back I thought less of it as time went on.
