It's a good film that contains some setup for payoff in later films. However, the payoff in the later films doesn't quite deliver which weakens those elements of TFA.

It was never a good film to begin with, it just had hype for the returning OT characters, now people are seeing how lackluster it is especially when TLJ crapped on all the plots started in TFA.

The PT had a good story to tell, it just wasnt executed well, they also had a grand presentation of great battles, they knew how to give pay off at the end of each film.

Because it's derivative as hell, just stealing parts from the original trilogy and mashing them together. And the new characters were lame. Harrison Ford pretty much carried the movie.

Definitely cuz the hype wore off.

Well, that happens to a movie when it starts out as a high risk-high return sort of deal in the first place, then its sequel specifically goes out of its way to completely **** on it and everything it tried to set up in every possible way.

TFA used to be a questionable movie that would be judged on how the following movies would flesh it out. Now it's simply mediocre and forgettable. Probably we should be relieved though, since 'mediocre and forgettable' is dimensions better than what came after it.

The issue is the ST should have been planned out and carefully crafted not this thrown together garbage that is so stupid and sad it has seriously hurt the SW brand.

Even the PT did not crap on the brand like this, toys of those three films still sold extremely well. The jedi, sith, and clone troopers were the major selling toys but with the ST the toys have rotted on the shelves.

The prequels at least had several parts where it was fun to mock it.

The sequels don't even deserve mocking.

Give me Yoda bouncing around with a lightsaber while cackling maniacally like a 5-year-old pumped full of sugar, while R2 flies around on his jetpack legs and goes FIRIN' MA LAZOR on robots. Give me that Kinect stuff with Han, Lando and Vader dancing horrible moves to horrible music while Emperor Palpy goes nuts in the background shooting lightning all over the place. I'd rather watch those for 2 hours than TLJ.

Because Incels really started hating Star Wars with The Last Jedi and they are retroactively hating The Force Awakens now. It aged fine.

The problem is the most interesting thing about the movie were future plot points it set up. TLJ ruined all those plot points, so now it's hard to watch knowing it's all going to be thrown away.

Metal Gear went a similar route. While I'd argue that the later games didn't "ruin" the plot of first few games, it certainly changed the perception of them entirely.

Personally, outside of episode 2, I think the prequels are fine.

I'll never watch those movies but I hear a lot more people praising TFA now than I did at release. Maybe there was a lot of pressure to hate it back then.

TFA is better than any prequel movie. So is TLJ.

I liked TFA because it was the start of the something new. Lots of flaws were ignored because people were just happy to see everyone back and a new saga starting.

TLJ was so bad that TFA just feels pointless now. Not bad, just pointless.

I still have fun watching the prequels. It's like a galactic saga unraveling, mixed with a lot of over the top nonsense, which adds a nice comedic element. Saw the "I don't like sand" bit the other day in AotC and I was dying from laughter.
