Edith Piaf's "Ne Regrette Rein" playing in Inception when we step off the elevator to see the ruined hotel room. "Wham Bam Shang-a-lang" and the moment the Sovereign suddenly pops out of hyperspace into Ego's orbit in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and then the reprise when they show up in the planet's core for like ten second to jam a wrench into the heroes plan. I realize the Sovereign are the biggest assholes in the MCU who aren't committing outright genocide/enslaving folks, but they give me this impression of a society of catty high school queen bees, who are talented enough to be extremely dangerous, but too petty to ever make anything of themselves. So it's all verbal backstabbing and YT drama. Oh my God, they just this side of becoming Mojoworld. I would die. Lionel from "Dear Black People" sitting on the steps of one of the class buildings imagining himself joining various campus groups or adopting various identities while the "Black Swan overture" plays. It was admittedly very heavy-handed. I just felt like a smarty pants for recognizing the music and understanding what the music was trying to say about the scene. Not a movie, but this past season of Pose when Blanca is giving the virginity/safe sex lecture to one of the children, a rendition of Ryuichi Sakamoto's "A Flower is not a flower," begins to slowly play in the background. 95% of the people who watched it probably didn't even notice, but for anyone who did and who knew the name of the track that, metaphor they were referencing (the toxic 'virginity as flower' comparison so many girls are familiar with) with that slight detail was obvious.
