Play called Lucia's side of the story "a cruel sonnet of self-realization wrapped in a story steeped in religious overtones", stating that the story alone was reason to purchase the game.

From what I remember a few months back after finishing

- it's just too damn easy, while at the same time impossible to get S on mission. Super weird. Guns are REALLY strong so you can kind of just use those for most fights (and some fights is the only viable means of fighting like the aforementioned Helicopter battle)

-they took away a lot of the upgrading stuff, just really simplified it and made it not nearly as fun.

- Dante's story is barely anything

On a positive note I kind of liked some of the environments they did, they tried to be a bit adventurous with some of them. Also probably the best part of the game is the Dodge animations. First game that you can Matrix off walls and do some other fun stuff. The animations in general for the game are pretty decent.

Those are the big ones that ruin it for me.

More specifically Dante is generally very SRS BIZNIZ in it which is kinda missing the point of Dante.

The game is kind of a huge exercise in missing the point actually. Like they stumbled upon some good things in DMC1 and the DMC2 didn't understand any of it and just made a generic action game and slapped a logo on it. There's a reason people say it doesn't exist-- it practically feels like fanfiction more than a real entry to the series and is easily ignored.

DmC is a much better at being a DMC game than DMC2 is, and that's saying something.

for some other possibly related news, Atlus just today or yesterday had an interview where they said they'd love to remake Nocturne.

further proving that we're getting Devil May Cry, featuring Demi-Fiend from Shin Megami Tensei as everyone should remember that Nocturne had DMC2 Dante in it. ergo, our timeline would be 3 -> 1 -> 4 -> 2 -> SMT: Nocturne -> 5.

at the end of DMC2, Dante goes into Hell. at which point he can go join the crew to punch God in the face and once he's done the two leave and he gets himself a newer, cooler demon motorcycle. and what we do know about V is that he is a summoner and can use magic.
