i would bet that smash 4 becomes obsolete after this comes out, similar to how 4 replaced brawl for a lot of people. unlike melee which is still unique and has its own playerbase, especially competitively

Yeah but Brawl had some stuff that 4 didn't have. Ultimate at least seems like it's everything 4 has, including its general mechanic base, plus more.

First details and footage make it seem like as big of a jump as BlazBlue Continuum Shift -> Chronophantasma. Probably an especially apt comparison as both jumps increased the speed of the game by a bunch alongside mechanical tweaks across the board.

They said there are directional air-dodges, and also that dodging decays somehow on use. Directional air-dodges in Melee are what allow for wavedashing, and the changes to dodging could make the game more offense-heavy.

Reports from the ground say no more wavedashing and no L canceling. But dash dancing is still in.

Still it's just a demo, so it's hard to say. It plays similar to 4, but so does Brawl at a glance. I think it will really come down to what the non-gameplay features (single-player, stages, etc.) are like.

Yeah Smash 4 looked like Brawl 2.0 when I first saw it too. This looks a lot faster and offensive, but the it'll take time to see where the meta lands.

Attacks definitely hit harder than in Smash 4. It might be faster too, but I was playing as Ridley who was pretty slow, so it's hard to tell.

Also, rewatching footage from Smash 4 Wii U, you can really tell they reworked everything; at least graphically. Both in the models and the animations, it's a pretty big upgrade.
