Yep. It sucks because if this happened in 2019 instead of 2018 I'd probably have the subs. The new requirement to stay monetized is a total watch time of 4,000 hours in the past 12 months and a minimum of 1,000 subscribers. I have 800 subs exact, and 16,534 hours of total watch time.

Fuck I'm 4 times the watch time requirement.

I doubt it. The mass of people who visit YouTube on the daily is how it can pull these numbers in the first place. I can't see any company taking YouTube's place at this point.

Oh yeah, YouTube bleeds money. Theyve never turned a profit in their history. Why do you think there arent a hundred YouTube clones? If Google wasnt backing it then that place would be in serious trouble. Right now theyre trying to save money by cutting out the nickel and dime payments.

still seems weird that they wouldn't just adjust the payout so they could turn a profit even if it meant creators received less. the structure seems to have been working in their favor at least in terms of drawing new content creators.

It's a bit more effort than I want as just a side-hobby. Plus going from commentary free gameplay to live streaming is pretty different. Also my capture setup quality would lower if I tried to do that. I like my high bitrates. <_<

I did a complete silent play through of NieR: Automata and they got like 10 views each if that. My NHL videos get 200+ each. I dunno what the fuck algorithm I'm in but it doesn't like anything else I put out. =P
