Oddly enough, that's a word which has kept popping into my head a lot lately. I knew it was a political word of some kind, but couldn't remember what it meant.

Well, back when I was doing my word of the day series, I wound up covering a few weird words:

Docent - A term for a museum guide because apparently museum guide isn't direct enough

Decedent - Legal term for a deceased person. I guess "the deceased" doesn't just do, despite tv lawyers using that.

Presentiment - Synonym for foreboding. First learned about when watching j-horror since translators often tend to use less common English words because their mastery of both languages generally isn't fluid.

And, when I glanced at Merriam-Webster, the word of the day is Gravaman which, apparently, isn't a superhero but instead the significant part of a grievance.

I can't think of any weird words but I know a bunch that I hardly hear anyone use.

Lassitude perhaps

Definitely don't see vituperative very often either.

I always see people use verdant or fertile instead of fecund, but it's still a bit more common.

Tenebrous.

Oh, plus one of the more interesting words I've heard in the past year was from a LindyBeige video where brought up the following word:

Nullipara - meaning a woman who has never given birth.

Opus was the Bloom Picayune's ombudsman for a short time. I believe that was the first time I'd ever encountered the word.

Yeah Ombudsman is very English, our regulators are called ombudsmen.

Like the Communication Ombudsman for example.

From Wikipedia:
Etymologically rooted in the Old Norse word umbosmar, essentially meaning "representative" (with the word umbud/ombud meaning proxy, attorney, that is someone who is authorized to act for someone else, a meaning it still has in the Scandinavian languages).

This is why the apparently English word 'Ombudsman' confused me.
I guess you learn something new everyday.
