You can also get reusable ones that you can fill with your own coffee grounds.

Only the "new" ones for the 2.0. The "old" K-Cup patent actually expired in 2012 which is the main reason why the Keurig system has so much more support than any of the others (and the machines are far cheaper than the Nespresso ones which also expired).

They did and it nuked their bottom line and their reputation. However you can still get the old machines that accept whatever the fuck you put in it.

they sell coffee makers. its a type of coffee maker that makes 1 cup at a time instead of a pot of coffee

You can also "hack" the new ones - just tape a label of one cup onto another one.
