I read a lot of things online that it has a lot of negative effects on German shepherds.

On the other hand that red rocket out too much and he just started hiking his leg to pee. He's about to be 6 months old

Keep in mind that if you do hell be more prone to muscle and ligament injuries (assuming he's an active dog).

No one ever likes to address the downside.

The personality thing seems like bs from every dog I've ever known.

But there are other issues.

See that's what scares me plus hip injuries because of the way they walk and stance

Yes. But there are drawbacks to it and I want to make my GSD is going to be fine. Since leg and hip injuries affect them more than other dogs

simply put: if you don't get this done, and don't watch him like a hawk, at some point he's going to impregnate another dog. and those puppies will suffer. this is at the core of our pet problem. it's why in the south there are dogs all over the place and so many have to be put down.

vets know how to handle the procedure. he's not going to be significantly impacted from it. it's a minor surgery.

if he's >6mo old, he'll be fine. should not be done on younger dogs than that.

Wait until he's physically mature, around 18 months old. The drawbacks to early spay/neuter are too much. Dogs need those hormones when growing.

you're absolutely right about the impact of early neuter

actually doing a little digging, bigger dogs reach physical maturity later and waiting until 18mo is probably a good idea

also early spaying does not impact hormones to my knowledge and it's just about physical capacity of a young dog to undergo the more invasive surgery

I was skeptical of a friends desire to get his large dog neutered at 18 months, but he sent me a bunch of links and it made sense
and of course, better late than never so I wasn't really gonna argue with him

I waited until 6 months to spay my puppy on the vets recommendation. she said that the hormones stuff is more important with a male dog, but they still recommend waiting on a female dog

Cause Bob barker said so?

My old man's dog has had a fuck ton of muscle tears and ligament injuries and even the vet straight up told him it's partially related to his lower testosterone levels post surgery.

A responsible pet owner shouldn't ever let their dog run loose and smash other dogs either.
