when I screw up a conversation with a woman. Or when I realize that someone was interested in me well after the fact.

For one thing, romantic encounters are such a foreign concept to me personally (thanks to being single for so long) that when a potential one pops up I'm always caught off guard like a deer in the headlights. And even if I can keep my cool, it still doesn't matter if I can't even keep up a conversation. They'll be telling me something or asking me questions and I keep wracking my brain trying to think of something to say, but usually just come up with two or three word responses that kill the momentum.

Even worse is when I don't even notice what's really going on at the time. Then much later I realize I blew it, and I just tell Jesus I'm ready.

I suppose besides simply working on my conversation skills, I could just try asking about them. Everybody likes to talk about themselves, so it'll at least keep the conversation alive long enough for me to come up with something.

I tried talking with a few people in my drive thru who were wearing gaming t-shirts. One girl was wearing a Bayonetta shirt:

- "I like your Bayonetta shirt; that's cool!"
- *drives away*

And a guy in a Nintendo 64 shirt:

- "That's a cool N64 shirt."
- "Yeah." *drives away*

That's really not so weird though. I mean, they were going through the drive-thru because they were in a hurry, you know?

That's usually what people do at drive throughs. They drive through.

I had a girl next to me once when I was going through my locker in High School say

"You got any room in there? Maybe you can hide me in there and save me for later..."

Or the random girl who literally shouted at me from across the lunch area,

"You wanna come with me behind the vending machines and fuck!?"

Still, I always make sure to observe basic manners at a restaurant, like saying thank you or generally acknowledging the other person's existence. You'd be surprised (or maybe not) how many people just grab their stuff and speed away without a word.

Reason why I'm thankful I've never had to work in retail or customer service. People are assholes.

Same for me actually, on the rare occasion I do interact with someone, my conversation skills(or lack of them) kill the conversation and I'm quickly passed over and forgotten about. I don't think anyone's ever actually been into me though.
