I mean, sure, but being completely coherent is not really the point in a horror franchise.

That said, the prequels put a big emphasis on story and plot, so I guess that's out the window anyway.

But.... why are they trying to build a mythos and background around this stuff.... when they don't seem to actually pay attention to make sure these details fit?

If you just wanna have horror movies with xenomorphs in it there is already a ton of opportunity there.

Well, apparently they had ideas to fit Prometheus into the Alien franchise, but Ridley Scott never wanted to do a prequel like that. But J.J. Abrams was like "Yo, we should do it. It would be so awesome." So Ridley Scott decided he would work on it with Abrams because he likes Abrams and thought it could be interesting.

Then Prometheus was received pretty poorly and J.J. Abrams said, "I don't want to do this anymore, sorry."

But they had already created a mess with Prometheus and Ridley Scott wanted to try and salvage it and complete it. So... this is what we get now. Ridley Scott trying to fix his own mythos because he was roped into adding more to the franchise when he didn't want to anyway.

It's this one-two punch that keeps me from caring. I dislike the horror genre (Alien is the only horror movie on an admittedly short list that I've ever seen and enjoyed), and this weird constant prequel gig Scott's got going on, which seems to want to explore some fairly trite things (and does so poorly) has stopped me from paying attention to the franchise. I love my space settings, but I draw the line at horror, I guess.

I probably wouldn't know the first thing about Covenant if it weren't for the Facebook sci-fi/fantasy group I run. I have friends there who are hyped, so I keep a level smile about the whole arrangement and hope they aren't let down. Two of them seem primarily motivated by the appearance of Michael Fassbender, so I suppose they'll be okay.

Well, Michael Fassbender is said to be the only good thing about the two movies, especially the latest one. So if they love Michael Fassbender and his character that much, they'll probably enjoy it.
