so I'm assuming they've been wanting me to take all these upper paths to avoid Mechon fights, but I'm 10 levels higher than all the Mechon here anyway so it hasn't been an issue.

in typical SHINE fashion though of course I'm exploring every possible route both in the upper and lower paths

But seriously though, I have never and never shall beat FFVII in a paltry 25 hours. Take my time with that game, dammit. It demands it! There is just so much to do and get soaked up in atmospherically, darnit.

I mean, they might be 50 hours if you do EVERYTHING the game has to offer (minus unnecessary grinding and stuff like that), but the main game is more like 25-30 for all the PS1 FFs.

I'm okay with long games every now and then. Dragon Quest VIII is one of my favorite games and it took me about 80 hours to finish everything. Lost Odyssey took 40 for the main story, then 30 more for sidequests. Just in general, a 25-30 hour RPG is ideal!

That is just absolutely rushing to me. But that's just me. I respect the idea that to many 25-30 is more accurate, but my files will never be half that length, and I don't necessarily do everything every time, either.

Yeah, FFXII and FFXIII are 50 hour RPGs, probably longer. I think 30-40 is more of an average length for PS1 FFs. We can throw FFXII into the pile of good games that are long, though!

Too bad about how they both leave me wanting from a narrative perspective. Most of that time is just running, but at least in FFXII's case the world is a beauty and much more fun to run through.

The chapter system really drove home for me how much longer its storyline needed to be for me to care about it, regardless of how long its storyline 'technically' was in comparison to the PSX FFs -- which traditionally have always taken me longer file-wise than my one and only FFXIII file ever got near.

I think it's just a very subjective thing, but I'm more than willing to admit that from the most objective viewpoints possible, FFXIII might technically be the longer game. But damn, does it feel like nothing happens to me, which makes it feel short.

FFXII had a nice subtle quality to it that most JRPGs lack, but a few more character interaction scenes during those long treks across Ivalice would have been nice. I enjoyed what was there, though.

If only Daisuke Watanabe were given more time to add stuff...! He seriously had like thrice as many scenes in mind.

The great thing about Xenoblade though is that it never gets boring. One of the those few games where on a day off I can start playing at 7 or 8 in the morning and it'll suddenly be 12 hours later and I won't even realize it. Most games I have to force myself to take a break after 2-3 hours just because I feel like I have to do something else.

I have found that most Xenoblade players have arrived at that conclusion, which is spectacular! For myself, though, I'd definitely get bored after ten-hour sessions with it, but I have some JRPGs I'm like that with, so it's cool.
