JD is more of a straight man in season 1 and the Janitor was originally meant to be a figment of his imagination, which is why he only interacts with JD the first season. In season 2 they scrapped that and made him a regular part of the hospital. Also JD becomes more of the feminine nerd we know and love as it goes on. From the ancient references, to working out JD's fantasies and comedy, to the extreme abrasiveness of Jordan, to the Janitor initially being a figment of JD's imagination... just lots of things they were workshopping. One of the first sitcoms of the 21st century to not have a laugh track, not to mention the single camera format that's better for viewers but much more difficult for the actual people behind the show to do, makes this a landmark show imo. Xerun 04/27/24 4:08:01 PM #47:	I rewatch the show often and Season 1 always feels like the black sheep season until I get to Season 7. 8 also feels really different but I like it a lot. Season 2 - 5 is really great. and agreed with the poster above. Im surprised people are actually friends with JD when I actually think about it.
