JD is more of a straight man in season 1 and the Janitor was originally meant to be a figment of his imagination, which is why he only interacts with JD the first season. In season 2 they scrapped that and made him a regular part of the hospital. Also JD becomes more of the feminine nerd we know and love as it goes on.
