There are those in shelters, in their cars, those living temporary situations with friends, etc. The issue is that there is a lack of housing to give people. We should have more public housing options. However affordable housing is the only solution, not giving someone a place to stay for a few weeks or a month or even years. A big issue this country has is you can only get aid when it's beyond too late. Some of these people simply some assistance before they lost their home, job, life, not after. In Florida if you make more than like 250 dollars a week you can't qualify for food stamps. So Florida thinks making 1000 a month is somehow enough to survive on. It's fucking ridiculous. And my main hobby horse is trying to make people realize that we have a true shortage of housing of all kind in the US. We don't build enough housing period, which leads to the insane housing increase we've seen in recent years. Not enough people are willing to treat the lack of housing supply as a real crisis. Wanting more public housing doesn't help if we make it so hard to build housing of any kind. And that difficulty is what also makes market rate housing so expensive. If I recall correctly, I made a post talking about how Hobbs shouldn't have vetod a housing bill that removed minimum house and lot sizes. The bill wanted to make it legal to build smaller housing.
