No. They're getting paid to do a job. I also don't leave my room trashed, so all they need to do is the basic stuff like empty the garbage, replace towels and change out the bedding.

I do but I don't know if it is common or expected. I went on a two week trip to Germany in high school and my teacher said it is a thing over there and I liked the idea so I started doing it back here in the States.

I've always left a tip (including internationally), on a thank you note on the desk (a piece of hotel stationary paper on which I literally wrote thank you, not a whole letter).
