What about Alec Baldwin himself? It's ultimately the person firing a gun to make sure it's safe. Just taking someone else's word that it's not loaded is one of the most irresponsible things you can do.

Nepotism. She had multiple failed attempts at getting into modeling and acting and eventually got into the business because her father was also in the same field and had connections.

Completely disagree.
He's just an actor, he probably knows fucking nothing about guns, which is specifically why they hire an armorer. It's her job. She hands him the gun, ready to use. She's supposed to check it, it's literally her entire job.

Dafuq? As an actor Im not required to have this expertise. Thats what the armorer is for. I think anybody thats not a gun enthusiast would feel the same way, cause I wouldnt event know what to do or look for.

You absolutely do not need to be a gun enthusiast to know how to check if a gun is loaded. It takes like one minute to learn on a specific gun.

IIRC Baldwin as a producer had the ability to shut down the set after all the union guys had quit over the set being unsafe. He chose to keep things going and this is the end result.

You could say he was the Vince McMahon to this Owen Hart style shit show. Only Vince didn't personally help Owen into the rigging that got Owen killed.

yeah, the only way I think he should be guilty is if he was fucking around with the gun while they werent filming a scene. If he was supposed to be using it, it should have been checked properly

Though isnt the procedure is that whoever hands the gun to an actor shows that it is not loaded first?

That didn't happen though and Alec Baldwin was never shown anything. He just got a verbal confirmation.

To be fair, it's the maximum sentence for involuntary manslaughter in New Mexico, the judge wasn't able to give her any more time than that.

Isn't it loaded with blanks? Or do they just use cgi these days.

Also it's really not hard to check a gun. Drop the mag. Button is almost always near the top of the grip if not always (on a hand gun at least) then pull the slide back and see the chamber is clear.

Revolver is even easier just hit the button that drops the cylinder to the side and you can see if there is bullets in it.

I wouldn't expect a actor to learn complicated things for a role but this stuff is easy.

That said I'm unsure if I feel Baldwin deserves prison. Clearly actors haven't been taught these things but it should most definitely set a precedent that actors must recieve gun safety training to use a prop gun on set. Maybe make Baldwin pay for these trainers to be utilized for a good while as a punishment.

That's not how it works on film sets, nor is it how it ever worked. If the actor checks the chamber at all the armorer has to reset the gun. That's why all those "Will Smith checks his guns" or whatever shit is dumb. Like sure he does but then the process starts all over again at that point.

Two qualified people check the gun before it even touches the actors hands. The issue here is that there were way too many people touching these guns because they were shooting live rounds on set during down time. That's entirely the armorers fault. There shouldn't have been live ammo to begin with, and no one should be touching these guns outside of the armorer, the other person who verifies its safety (usually some sort of producer), and the actor at the time its handed off to them.

From what I read, it depends, if they dont care too much, cgi in post with nothing in the gun and not even a real working gun, if they do care, blanks but usually there is either something between the actor firing, or the actor fires with no one there and then edited to show for safety. Blanks can be dangerous.

The only benefit I see of a real blank is I'm guessing it provides semi accurate recoil where as otherwise the actor is gonna have to act that part too.
