Most authors would have felt written into a corner and been like "nah since Eren got the founder and touches a royal he can overwrite this rule!" but they didn't do that. Naruto for example spoilers ~~Using Mangeyoku sharingan makes you go blind. Oh wait Madara just has tons of eyes. Oh wait the eternal Mageyoku sharigan doesn't make you go blind. Especially since the death was a result of the curse of ymir (which was lifted) rather than using said op powers draining lifeforce or something I feel like most stories do this with op abilities when they don't have a fixed ending. Heck at one point in dbz turning super sayian turned you into a bloodlust warrior (there was a whole thing amongst the other characters worrying about gokus control of self as well as goku yelling at gohan to listen to him while he had sense left) and I don't think that even made it to the end of the saga it was introduced. I kind of roll my eyes any time a story introduces a power that "drains lifeforce".
