tl;dr: Lunchables had up to 1/2 or more of a child's daily sodium limit. Also had levels of lead and cadmium in them. They didn't exceed the FDA's limits, though lead never leaves your body and will just build up over time. So uh... I hope you didn't eat these much >_>

I heard about this how they actually have lead in the cinnamon as well kids were eating the applesauces.

Hopefully that leads to some FDA control because there's too much lead in other spices as well because apparently California is the only place that bothered to have regulations about that??

I mean they advertise pizza, nachos, hot dogs, and deli meat that is just barely able to be called meat and a thing that looks like cheese, but is not anywhere close to being cheese... Oh and a Capri Sun and a candy bar.

This is actually lunchables created specifically to be served in school cafeterias and not the ones you get at the grocery store.

Though it's not like those are much better.

I bought some for my kids recently, thinking they were still a "hip and cool" quick solution for lunch at school or even on a weekend at home. I always thought they were great.

Then I tried one myself and was disgusted. Did my tastes change or have they done so much cost-cutting in the past 20-30 years that they barely resemble what they used to be?

I don't think I have lunchables too often as a kid, but that's still quite concerning.

Everything has half the daily recommended value of sodium. This isnt exactly noteworthy.

I'm curious as well. I'd suspect the fruit-based beverage first if one is included.

Really wish it was talked about more how preserved/smoked meats are directly linked to bowel cancer. When I was a kid it was baloney, now kids eat salami from a very young age, because parents are easy marks. Of course your kid loves salami, it's full of salt and you love it because you just pull it out of a package.

Back in October there was a report about high lead and cadmium levels in chocolate, especially dark chocolate, so I would think that would be part of the problem if these things have a chocolate part to them.

Could also be from whatever the cracker is made from. Cadmium in the soil means it could affect anything grown there and lead dust blows onto exposed crops.

I'm gonna try these one day. But I'm always tempted by the fact that I can get like 4 Lunchables for the same price lol. Three little shitty pizzas, a tiny Crunch bar, and pack of Capri Sun. Yum :D
