Fast. Slow people tend to be annoying and can cause dangerous passes or block people which can cause people to get angry and speed while driving, but I noticed that fast drivers don't just drive fast, they drive recklessly and tend to swerve all of the place, fail to use blinkers when they switch lanes or turn, and make really terrible right turns. They also have a nasty tendency to speed up when YOU are making a turn for no reason.

Definitely people who drive fast. A little fast is no problem, but when you're going 60+ in a 35mph zone and aggressively changing lanes to go around people, you're actively endangering everyone on the road. Speeding is one of the leading causes for accidents for a reason.

Driving slow isn't even in the same league as far as danger goes. And I hate the person who's putting me in more danger

More often than not, slow drivers. Although fast drivers that drive recklessly are worse than all, but I feel that they arent nearly as common.

A slow driver who just plants themselves in the left lane and doesnt move is still an asshole. Move to the right, and use the left lanes to pass, then return to the right. It isnt that hard.

slow drivers aren't inherently dangerous and in general are easy to just pass, and if you are in a situation where you can't pass them, it's a mild annoyance at best.

people that drive too fast are inherently unsafe and potentially dangerous, and i am more annoyed by that than by slow drivers, of being put in a position where i have to consider that danger because of the reckless actions of another person.

I don't mind fast drivers as long as they don't tailgate people.

Though to be fair, the definition of tailgating has crept so much that you pretty much have to ram someone to count.

Seriously, try it sometime. Count seconds from the car in front of you passing a sign or pothole until you do. I guarantee you it's less than 2 unless you're so far off in the middle of nowhere that there's just nobody ahead of you. And I guarantee you if you try to slow down until it's 3, somebody fills that gap before you can get there.

also if a slow driver is being reckless or is distracted, its a lot easier to react to than if a fast driver gets distracted.

imo slow drivers are worse because they cause traffic when they're not Sunday morning cruising in the rightmost lane, and then everyone else gets fed up and tries to pass them in some way. This results in more dangerous and stressful driving with people passing on the right and changing lanes constantly

Fast drivers are dangerous but when I see that shit happening (every time I venture close to Baltimore) I just get as far right as I can and let that bullshit pass by

They can also contribute more to traffic, especially if they're not going the speed limit.

Forcing people to slam on/use their brakes can cause a chain reaction which can then cause follow-on reactions that create worse traffic.

Yes, speeders are dangerous and can cause accidents due to bad driving/lack of skill, but slow drivers not getting up to speed appropriately or refusing to get up to speed are more likely to cause traffic than a speeder.

Obviously they are too stupid to be driving if they cant notice the presence of a two ton car directly beside them.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I guess that's where our experiences differ. Most "slow drivers" I encounter are going, at most, 15 mph under the speed limit. I've never encountered someone going 5 mph in a 35 zone, let alone in a 45.

And I guess you could say that lane weavers are predictable in the sense that you know they're going to continue to lane weave. But it's hard to predict how and when they'll do it, if there a decent amount of traffic.

They don't always get the openings they want. So they'll often switch between jumping around and riding someone's bumper. Those driver's make me far more nervous because I don't know if they'll react in time to avoid rear ending me if they're behind me, or avoid side swiping me if they're to my side.

Slow drivers, and it's not even close.

I dont know when this trend of "lets drive 5 mph under the speed limit for no fucking reason" or "Let's merge onto the 65 mph minimum freeway at about 40" bullshit came from, but it's getting pretty fucking tiring.

People need to figure out where the fuck they're going and get there.

Switch the word 'nervous' for 'angry' and you have my reason for picking fast in the poll as well.

Slow drivers will never rear end my car, and I can pass them in the left. Fast drivers are all over the place and may not even stop if they do hit my vehicle because they are already driving like they have to @%#.

There are by far more slow drivers in the far left lane than anywhere else on the road.

Okay, I can see why those drivers bother you. Who the hell stops at every crosswalk? Not even school buses do that here.

I've definitely had people do unpredictable things, like cutting across 5 lanes on the freeway to make it to an exit. Or making a left turn from the right lane. But those people were going the speed limit or slightly over. So I don't associate those with slow driving

I would never say slow is worse by virtue that I once saw a guy that was a fast driver try to speed through a yellow light was going so fast that he couldn't break because he almost hit someone else, flew over a curb, hit another car, and had so much momentum that he flung sideways and clipped another car and ricochetted into another car and basically crushed the woman in the driver's seat. That memory stops me from saying that fast drivers are safer, no one could have predicted that madness. He hit 3 cars.

What? How are fast drivers the more predictable ones?

They're not. People who make this argument are typically fast drivers, themselves, and so they find themselves having to "react" to slow drivers more. They just think slow drivers are "unpredictable," because their own fast driving unpredictability causes them to have to react to situations they wouldn't have to react to if they weren't driving so fast. For example, slow drivers are much much more likely to use their turn signal to turn, change lanes, etc., than a fast driver is. However, a fast driver typically isn't paying attention to turn signals, their main priority is passing somebody, so when a slow driver "suddenly" moves into their lane, they think it's "unpredictable" since they never noticed the turn signal to begin with. The reality of the situation is that, often, the slow driver had their turn signal on, and thought the lane was clear, so they started to merge.... But then the fast driver had to "react," because they were previously not within the slow driver's field of vision, but quickly got there, due to driving too fast.
