My head canon is that everything after that moment, was a result of a glitch in the timeline. Peggy was supposed to die but the universe fucked up It's actually really easy for me to believe that everything post-skydive is Hank trying harder and harder to cope with life without Peggy, because that's when the series starts getting its weirder episodes and characters become more Flanderized.
