i agree it is the most overrated of the pre xii games. it was good but not as good as the others of that era.

also 8 is unfairly maligned. it is a great game

RE6 is the best RE and the pinnacle of the TPS genre.

Dead Space 3 > 1 > 2

Donkey Kong Country 3 > 1 > 2

BOTW/TOTK and Elden Ring just barely escaped being standard Ubi open worlds but they have enough of the formula to be thrown in the pile and the only reason people say theyre revolutionary or different is because these games are either their first open world games or theyre fanboys.

Mobile gaming can be pretty good depending on where youre looking, and Apple Arcade is the best curated storefront to date with the best ratio in quality.

Gyro is amazing and the only reason people hate on it so much is because they fear change or think its like it was 20+ years ago. Eventually these people will be looked back at the same as these guys:

Exclusivity is great, multiplats do little for console exclusive features and I want more games with gyro and other DualSense features baked into their core design.

Monster Hunter World is one of the worst Monster Hunter games. It's completely outclassed by Freedom Unite, 3U, 4U, GU, and Rise with Sunbreak

I never played FU but this is close to what I had in mind. I do still like World fwiw, but it along with Dark Souls II are the worst games from their respective franchises that I still enjoyed.

-Gabe Newll is a corporate fat cat cockroach that doesn't deserve the haigography he's gotten through creating Steam as all it does is make Sturgenon's Law truer with regards to video games.

-Photo realism and photo realistic effects are lame. Fuck what scientific realism claims, what looks right should trounce what the laws of physics say.

-Digital distribution sucks and if physical is an option it should be taken.

NieR series is vastly overrated. Automata was a load of complete nonsense. Soundtrack was good.

Games should cost more.

I don't want them to but they absolutely should be closer to $90, come more complete, and DLC should change to strictly expansions and maybe cosmetics.

I think the 3D Marios only got better over time, at least up to Galaxy 2 (not that I dislike 3D World or Odyssey), I think its a straight shot of Galaxy 2 > Galaxy 1 > Sunshine > 64. Galaxy's controls and setup are just so much better and Galaxy 2 only improves on that.

I think graphics have pretty much "peaked". All the effects and stuff getting hyped nowadays, I just don't notice during gameplay at all.

I think RPG mechanics becoming more common is a bit overhated. I definitely don't think every game needs it, and they can definitely be done poorly, but I think its a good way of handling progression and I just find stuff like levelling up and perks to be really satisfying.

Speaking of RPG mechanics, I think vertical progression like "+15% damage" gets an unnecessary bad rap. New abilities and becoming more versatile are good, but you need to balance it out. Sometimes its nice to get a reward that you know makes you just straight up better rather than adding another cooldown to think about or another conditional modifier.

Earthbound is extremely overrated. I may have put up with its archaic interface and terribly limited inventory space as a kid but I cannot go back and play it now.

Final Fantasy 7 is incredibly boring.

Buy foxgirls in gaming in general. I dont think there is one mainstream game with cool eared women. In it besides FFXII . I not counting like noval games.

Diversity makes games better in most cases.

DDR needs to come back.

More diverse sexiness would honestly be something I would love. Like Frann from FFXII is a brown bunny girl. You don't see that a lot. And I loved it.

I think there is a good bit of indie devs that still hold down the fort, but diverse hotness has never hurt anybody. We need to embrace that.

Took me forever to beat Secret of Mana (maybe because I tried to max all weapons on the characters). I loved Secret of Evermore and played through it multiple times.

I also liked it's b-movie like narrative.

Most roguelikes are trash that rely too much on luck and actually have little depth.

While I 100% agree on the sequels being ass, the original Bubsy is a platforming classic from the era.

How is Mario the same age that he was in 1982 while Donkey Kong is two generations older? Is Nintendo going to reveal the official canon that Jumpman is Mario's grandfather and the current Pauline is the granddaughter of the one from Donkey Kong?

Size fluctuations are a thing. Bowser is anywhere between two to four times Mario's size on the regular. When go-karting, they can be even closer in size. So I'm not going to get into that. But you never see Bowser as a child matched against adult Mario or adult Mario matched against old man Bowser.

Chrono Cross is better than Chrono Trigger.

I don't find the beam ammo system to be much of an issue and I like the Dark World mechanic, but I do hate fighting Dark Pirate Commandos and there's no point anyway bc unless you get lucky with super charged beacons and powerbombs you wont kill them all before they fuck off.

FF8 was better than FF7.

Dragonquest VIII is a much better RPG than FF12.

I almost cant understand how people play Splatoon without gyro. It seems so baked in the core design it feels like Im missing a control option when I turn it off. Its mostly first party games that use it but games like Callisto Protocol use it too and devs like Capcom incorporate it as a standard as well. Itll get there, its just a shame it takes this long, mostly because of multiplat shenanigans because Xbox feels controllers should be the same as in the 360 days. You dont have to use it but for people like me who feel its as needed as an analog stick now it adds a lot. Every TPS that doesnt have it feels weird to me. Its like going back to regular audio after having experienced games like Returnal, The Order 1886, Hellblade and Hunt Showdown.

3D effect for the 3DS and the like isnt a gimmick and can make 3D platforming and performing better in 3D games more intuitive. I have noticed I judge distance MUCH better in OoT3D with the 3D on.

I am the only one who calls so called grinding , training. Just because you have to fight some extra battles because a player abuses fast travel doesn't equate to grinding. Maybe your real life wasn't a daily grind but any regular combat in a game isn't a grind to me.

In the realm of actual gaming, JRPGs stopped being interesting to me once overworlds were (mostly) removed.

Eh, if a game you really like gets shit on and a sequel or franchise is out of the question because of it I can sort of understand being upset about that.
