I have a quick question, what kind of game is this? is it an RPG or a fighting game?

Mafia is a social deduction game. Everybody is given secret identities and roles, split into two primary factions: town and mafia.

Town's goal is to eliminate all the mafia, but none of the townies know each other's secret identity.

Mafia's goal is to (more or less) eliminate all the town. Every mafioso knows each other's secret identities.

The game takes places over several 48-hour days, with each one split into two phases: daytime and nighttime. During the daytime, players cast votes on who they think is the mafia. The one with the most votes at the end of the daytime phase dies. At nighttime, the mafia can choose one player to kill. Furthermore, players with certain roles can perform special actions during the nighttime phase.

This particular game of Mafia is themed around Toy Story, so everybody's secret identities will be related to Toy Story in some form.

Hey folks, if youre on the fence about playing please try to decide today. Thatll give me and Sultan time to update the game for a slightly smaller player list than originally designed, if needed.

Really excited to share this game with you all. Its going to be a lot of fun.

Thats awesome thanks ctes. This game was designed for 15 players but I feel 12 is the minimum needed to really play without changing the set up too much.

With that said, we can still take 1-3 players and would gladly welcome them. I think Death is the only maybe left though.

Thank you both, yeah Id say give it a go. If death wants to join the party youd all make 15. And if anyone ctes just tagged (thank you!) wants to play, I can bump either one of you to replace.

I am planning to send them out Friday evening roughly 24 hours before the game begins. Cant really send out roles until I know player count since we might need to tweak the setup. But if we get to 15, Ill start working on remaining role PMs today and send them all sooner.

How long will the game last?

Hard to say. Really depends on the setup and how everything pans out. The game could be over in about 1.5 weeks, or it might span 3 weeks, maybe even the entire month. The game isn't over until one faction has the clear victory, and the path it takes to get there is likely to have many twists and turns. It's unpredictable by virtue of having 15 human players haha

Also, did you watch the video IGCD posted? Ive given a very basic explanation below but if youre serious about playing, Id strongly recommend doing some research on how the game is played. If you show up when the game begins and say remind me what I can do as scum youre going to die quickly lol

Mafia games can be very long and you arent expected to be around for every minute of the entire game. There are typically two teams, town and scum. You win or lose as a team. So even if you die, you will still win if your team wins the game.

As scum, youre trying to make people think youre town. As town, youre trying to figure out who is on the scum team.

Each day in this game of mafia will typically last 48 real life hours. Then we have a 24 hour night period. During the day everyone posts to either find scum (the secret bad team) or pretend to be town (if youre a member of the bad team) by asking questions and analyzing behavior. Generally everyone gets a vote for who they feel is a member of the scum team, and when the day ends (48 hours later) or the majority of players have voted for one person, the person with the most votes is eliminated and it becomes night.

At night no one is allowed to post in the thread. Any players with a night action (if you get one, youll learn about it in your role pm) choose if and on whom if applicable to use their action. Scum gets to kill someone. After 24 hours of night a new day begins and the cycle repeats itself.
