Allen Weisselberg, a retired executive in Donald Trumps real estate empire, was sentenced on Wednesday to five months in jail for lying under oath during his testimony in the civil fraud lawsuit brought against the former president by New Yorks attorney general.

Weisselberg, 76, pleaded guilty last month to two counts of perjury in connection with the suit. He admitted lying when he testified he had little knowledge of how Trumps Manhattan penthouse came to be valued on his financial statements at nearly three times its actual size.

Imagine going to jail for Trump not once, but twice.

Trumps attorneys also are challenging Judge Juan Merchans refusal to recuse himself from the trial and a previous ruling related to how dockets are made publicly.

They should all be categorized as frivolous lawsuits and appeals at this point. All they are doing is wasting time and money. They must get paid by the filing because they know their case hinges on their client not being a piece of ship.

"he exceeded his authority by saying Trump doesn't have total immunity from everything by extending Presidential immunity to actions he did before becoming POTUS"

The lawyers this guy finds absolutely disgust me and I hope they are all disbarred (and personally incarcerated as Trump's cell mates as well, though I doubt they're committing any actual crimes) for their shamefully blatant disdain for the legal process and the Court.

Here's a fair compromise. You can delay all these elections, but you have to spend time in jail while it works through the courts.

Ban religion, ban free speech, ban all that shit. I get why we have them, but this continuous need to use them as a tool to get out of trouble is beyond ridiculous. "Oh I disobeyed the rules that was given to me, how do I get myself out of this mess. I know, I'll play the 'freedom of religion' card! That'll do the trick!".

I truly don't understand why lawyers aren't held in contempt of court for knowingly lying to the judge like this. It's ridiculous what they get away with.

When a judge asks you "are you serious???", that's a clue to sit down and shut up

I fully envision Trump and his cadre of attorneys to try and paint this as a conflict of interest and motion of recusal, because of her obvious distress and disdain for the same type of arguments that Trump is leveraging.

I think Trump just does whatever he wants and consequences be damned cause that's how it's been for most of his life. Even as POTUS we had multiple reports about how he never wanted to hear intelligence briefings and had no desire to learn details for anything.

It's what happens when you have a brat born with a silver spoon in his mouth who grew up with a constant stream of yes men surrounding him because of daddy's money.

He never grew up. He never gained the notion that his words and actions have consequences because he has never experienced any, and thus disregards the consequences that he has either imposed or forced others to bear as a result. That supposed "salt of the earth" people like my extended family choose to champion trash like him just belies the reality that he embodies the inner child in them who desperately wishes that they, too, were never told "no."

I am honestly inclined to say that the alleged letter is manufactured, but I suppose weirder things have happened in this timeline. And even if real, it is literally evidence in support of the coverup shenanigans that are the heart of the prosecution, so the dude is a fucking idiot regardless.

The trial is expected to last up to six weeks, depending on how long jury selection takes and whether the judge opts for half-day proceedings or days off to attend other cases.

Yep, I concur with all of this. The one beneficial thing I think Trump brought to the forefront of American discussion is how people like him have lived and what benefits that comes with not afforded to the common person.

There's no way he doesn't snap. The million dollar question is how will the judge deal with his outbursts?

I think there is a certain amount that DJT hits where Trump basically loses money. I think I heard he can make money when it's at $17.50, but loses when it hits $12.

They could, and likely would, pull a Darrell Brooks: send him to another court room with his lawyers, watch the feed, and ask questions, all muted.

Theyll put him under some kind of house arrest with secret service, he will never spend a single night in a real prison or jail as former President
