"we aren't working on one" wink wink

The FF14 new expansion collectors edition bonus content is all FF9 themed and they haven't announced why. That kind of leads me to think it's going to happen to. Unless the new expansion is heavily FF9 themed but I wouldn't think that's the case.

Unfortunate. But IX is regarded as a fan favorite, while VIII is regarded as kind of a forgotten red-headed step child. So it makes sense from a "will we get a return on this project?" perspective.

They've gone on record saying FF6 is "too big" to remake. Maybe one day.

I don't believe any game is too big. Its just a matter of if they feel like putting in the effort right now

Ive seen no evidence that FFIX has a fanbase thats more substantial than FFVIII. Even in a recent game like Dissidia NT, FFVIII managed to get a new character while FFIX didnt.

FFIX is getting an anime so the choice to remake the game probably came from that.

So far there's only rumors and teases but nothing official.

I'm cool with the remaster. I like 7 remake but just simply getting prettied up graphics is fine too. 7 had to have a overhaul though no prettying up those graphics without just redoing the whole thing

It was. I liked 8 more than 7 but I know I'm a minority in that opinion. 7 was just simply good to me till crisis core then remake

After what they did to 7? Hell no.

God knows what those edgelords that took over would do to it.

8 is trash and doesn't deserve a remake (sorry, not sorry); 6 is perfect the way it is. 9 is actually pretty good the way it is, it's not plagued by early 3D jank like 7 is. I don't think it needs a remake tbh

Except for the painfully slow transitions of battles. Tbh I I think itll be a more stylized remake than 7 in order to stay true to the feeling of the og. And Yodhida practically confirmed theres something 9 related coming in the future. Theres also the FF9 anime thats already done.

Ehh I think it could use a minor remake at least. Prettied uo graphics like at least on 8s level and fix that slow ass battle speed. Adding 2x speed is just a bandaid as now the characters animations are moving too fast

TBH, I wouldn't mind if 9 got the Star Ocean 2 treatment

Pinocchio is a perfect example of a story being retold with similar looking and named characters with absolutely none of the original idea remaining.

9 is probably the easiest to remake, especially if they are keeping it traditionally turn based.

At least easier than 6 or 8 would be.

Giving it the Rebirth treatment would be a goddamn tragedy.

IMO FF8 would do even better with the Rebirth style than 7 is (at least where I'm at so far)

Idk why but I really hated 9 as a kid. I thought the art style was worse than 7/8, hated the medieval fantasy setting, and you didnt get summons till like half way in the game.

Loved 8 though. It was so weird and exploration was awesome in that game. I would prefer a remake of 8 over any other FF game.

Really? Regardless of sales, I've only heard positive things from other people about IX, while VIII--despite selling more copies--is just a big, giant, "meh", if not outright hostility.

Final Fantasy nine was made to counter the edge lord angst of FF7 and 8. A remake should likewise be used to counter the edgelordness of the Final Fantasy VII reboot.

Thats just a small group of people repeatedly singing IXs praises. Again, just look at Dissidia NT, if IX was that more popular than VIII they would have got an extra character.

It's because 9 has an animated series in development as well. Japan tends to have tie-in shows or games to capitalize on stuff ( like how when an American Godzilla film gets made, Toei does one too)

But 9 is not really the game to apply this criticism to. Not with that final dungeon. I don't remember how it works exactly but something about going into your own memories and for some reason when they get deep enough into it, they arrive at the heart of the universe or some nonsense.

I dunno, it didn't really make sense to me so I just said sure and kept scrolling dialog.
