This is something Ive always found peculiar. Ive never once felt the need to replay a game after Ive defeated it.

I can understand returning to a game after years away due to nostalgia and boredom, but Ive always found it astonishing how whenever there is a new game released there is inevitably a poll made by a user asking how many times people have beaten the gameand to my suprise there are hundreds of people that have already beaten the game more than once. Some 3-4 times despite the game still being relatively new.

So for those who do replay games immediately after defeating themwhy?

Im an achievement Hunter so Ill often play through games multiple times to get the beat the game on ultra hard with your nipples hogtied to your hands and such.

Then theres games like Morrowind that are infinitely replayable with different setups and guilds each time.

If it has a NG+ I will jump right in afterwards, how long I continue to play depends on how much of the crap I collected carries over.

For me, if I'm really, really enjoying a game, then starting a new game+ playthrough right after is a great way to keep the fun going. If the gameplay loop is fun, then I don't care that I've already seen the ending.

If do if it's an old (or just old-style) game that gives you a good reason to, like multiple characters with unique stories/mechanics, for example.

Not usually. I just watched it, why would I watch it again?

I rewatch films after a while, due to nostalgia and boredom. But years have to pass me by first.

Even if I love a game, I usually wait at least a couple years before playing it again.

I'm not really a completionist and I've got a pretty big backlog of games I want to play, so as soon as I finish a game I move on to something else.

I'm currently playing Nier, so its a given to play it again since i want to get the whole story.

But seriously, if its a game that I had such a great time playing, it just gets in my head and go back to it in a day or two. Did like 6 runs of Elden Ring in a row before I finally had my fill and was able to move on to something else.

The only films I rewatch often are my laundry folding films which are, and have been the same for over a decade.

The Mummy (1998)
The Fifth Element
Mortal Kombat (1995)

Things I put on in the background when Im not actually planning on watching or paying attention to the film

if the game is relatively short, and has fun mechanics, then I sometimes do it.

I've played through Max Paynes 2 & 3 more than ten times each, and it was the same with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Depends on the game, but sometimes I'm trying to do challenges or 100% a game, complete NG+ content, or in the case of some games, like Elden Ring, I'm enjoying the gameplay enough that I want to keep going and try some other builds.

Normally I play games only once but I really like it when the second playthrough has a new novelty. The original tomb raiders gave you all weapons with infinite ammo the second time though, just a satisfying cool down lap. Tactics I played a second time because I wanted to try out new classes I didn't use the first time round.

I came in to say this. The Ng+ is the main reason. The first playthrough is about the story and learning the game. The Ng+ is about additional fun stuff. I look at the nioh games, they had it go up to Ng+4. It was all about combat and getting better weapons. I put so many hours into nioh 2 because the combat was just so fun, and there were so many weapons to learn and master.

Shorter games like the REmakes or platformers, yeah. Especially if there are extra things to use or unlock in later playthroughs. Open world games where I put in 100+ hours the first time, hell no.

Pretty often tbh. Have done an annual complete run of RTCW for like 5 years now. Last time I did it was a no death run for the third time in my playing it.

Older games are quite easy to just play anytime. For newer games it just depends on purely if I had fun with it. Ive probably played through Cyberpunk at least 5 times now. It does stink there is no new game + to that one but you level quick anyway.

It depends on the game. A grind heavy JRPG isn't something that I player over again, while an arcade beat em up with multiple characters is.

I think some people like the familiarity of playing a new video game.

My problem is that there's always other games I want to play. I should probably enjoy what I've got more. In a way that's a better way to get more out to each game.

If there's New Game+ I usually start a new playthrough just to mess around.

Edit: Also, for games like Infamous where there are "good guy" and "bad guy" endings, playing through twice is the only way to get the whole experience.

I only did that on Resident Evil 4 so I could blast through everything with the Tommy Gun and infinite rocket launcher. Normally I hate new game plus because its super easy and boring, and the story is still fresh in my memory. When I replay a game years later, I try to pick a different build/different story choices, but I usually forget and end up doing the same thing.
