You wish you were as sad as me

My voice before puberty actually sounded like felicia fates and it was before felicia existed so it makes me feel weird af hearing myself like I sound like a weirdo girl despite how manly I looked at that age before my voice dropped late as a 15 year old I got shit tons of comments when I was around 12 to 15 and I hated it

No I am as jealous as fuck. I would give anything to watch my old tapes again.

I too still have a lot of my old VHS tapes and a video recorder but no way to hook it up to my TV as all my TV connections are HDMI and my VHS uses something we had in Europe called SCART.

Nice too see I am not the only one with an old VHS collection.

I gathered up all my family's old home movies last summer and converted them to digital so me, my parents, and my sisters could all have a flash drive with them plus they're all on a shared Google drive.

A lot of those tapes were 30+ years old and I was surprised they held up as well as they did. And yeah, I felt very sad watching a lot of it. Mainly the ones where all of us were together. Once one sibling moves out, those moments rarely happen again.

This is what I used in case anyone wants to do the same to preserve their old tapes. Super simple, just need to hook it up to a VCR and put a flash drive in and start recording.

Who posted #3 am I allowed to ask or is that rule breaking? I am curious....I have seen people ask before but its a first for me to notice it to myself..

when I my kids were born, we go one of those big honker VHS recorders.. like FULL SIZED.

I remember going places with it, feeling like a new crew, when I took it out...

We would do a "year in review" with just like 5 minutes in every month, and the Christmases on both ends..and then make copies for the family... the quality was totally shit, but it was funny to see young kids grow in a year.

We have nothing that plays VHS tapes now. have not for years.. you have something??? or were they copied to other media. ??

I remember looking at old pictures of me when I had HAIR!!!! WOW, I was really cute, you would have think I would have gotten laid WAY more.

I bought a vhs to dvd recorder so I could transfer my favorite vhs tapes to dvd, it has hdmi connections I believe.

I believe my father has some videos when I was a toddler (74-76), a few more when I was 7-9. The toddlers videos I'm running around in one of those round stroller things. Not sure what kind of camera he was using. Not too sure about the mid 80's videos. Might have been VHS or the same camera

Side note. He is thinking about refurbishing his reel to reel from that same era. It's close to 50 years old and hasn't been used since I was last home (94). Good memories of it though. He recorded christmas songs on it. For years he would put it on the coffee table we would listen or dance.

I am beginning to think I may have misunderstood the topic.

I thought that sonichu was talking about watching his old VHS collection from when he was a child but it looks like he was talking about watching movies of himself when he was a child.

The earliest I have seen of myself was of my mum pregnant with me and the earliest I have seen of myself alive was when I was 1 month and 10 days old in Christmas 1974.

They were recorded on this Cine-camera my dads dad had and one day my aunt got them converted to VHS!

There is nothing else of my childhood as camcorders didn't exist back then and my dad didn't get one until the late 1980's.

I recently saw some videos that I was in when I was in my early teens. It was a bit depressing since it had my dog in it, first time I'd seen and heard him since he disappeared years ago.

Aw thats so sad..
im somehow in my 20s and the closest people who have died after me being 7 years old have been my nanas partners parents and I did get massively upset but idk how Id react to anyone who I am immediately close to dying Ive somehow had no one die and I count myself lucky.
i specified me being after 7 cos my dad and grandma died at 3 and 6 but by the time I was mature enough to realise the gravity of death I barely remembered them I know my grandma but 0 memories of my dad and that on its own is sad but I cant grieve that hard besides the idea of knowing him based on peoples nice opinions of him

Do not delay in transferring old tapes. VCRs depend internally on belts and other rubber components that can deteriorate surprisingly quickly. It's the same reason why only the very highest-end audio cassette equipment has any value.

I've got one tape that I waited too long to try to transfer, and now it's just a blank.
