This is something that came up when I was use to beon Twitter (Ive been off for 3 weeks now). It seems like people really hate those who use Doordash and similar services. Its quite odd, like theyre calling them lazy and such. Theres a type of animosity that just seems strange. Delivery has been a thing for so long, but now it seems like people who use it are branded with a scarlet letter. Also, the people who complain seem to think its so different than going out to eat. If youre lazy for getting delivery, then youre lazy for not cooking, right? Shouldnt it follow the same logic? Anyway, is this a real thing, or is it just a Twitter thing? Also, I know its ironic that I am bringing a Twitter topic to this place after saying I was happy to be off. But here we can talk about things like people and develop the conversation without the yelling and nonsense that is seen on Twitter.

My Wife delivered Doordash for a few months last year for extra pocket money. I rode shotgun a few times to keep her company. I was blown away by people blowing their money on crappy food. One time we had someone get ONE Coffee from Dunkin Donuts and they tipped too. Imagine spending $10 on a coffee. Another time, a person ordered Chipotle from 20 miles away. I have no idea how much it cost that person, but they lived in a single wide trailer in the middle of nowhere and the food was ice cold by the time we finally got it to them. (Multiple dashers refused the order so my wife got a kicker bonus to finally deliver it over a half hour drive away).

If you are starving and cant leave the house pizza or Chinese delivery is much cheaper. Yes I can judge you if you spend half your paycheck on Doordash every day instead of cooking.

The original DoorDash discourse kicked off when people were complaining about how expensive food had become before the revelation that the person was DoorDashing everything.

This caused everyone to shit on them because of course using a luxury delivery service is going to cost considerably more. This caused pushback from people who frequently use DoorDash.

Eventually arguments of ableism, worker's pay and classism all got wrapped up in it too.

I personally don't have a problem with DoorDash, so long as people acknowledge that they are absolutely paying a premium associated with having a person, one who should ideally be making enough money to get by, delivering their food. And that if they don't like that premium, they are free to go get it themselves or just learn to cook.

Tipping isnt normally expected here. There is a capacity to do it built into some apps, including this one, but very few people do it. A lot of people dont like tips here.

I thought the topic was going to be about hating it for being expensive. It's the reason I don't use it.

Since its about those that use the service. I don't hate on those that do want to spend money on that expensive service. Those looking who call the ones that use it, lazy, have arbitrary reasons to call them lazy.

Also, Im neither cheap nor selfish. Im willing to bet that I donate both more time and money to charity than you do. Youve completely missed the point.

In the discourse I've seen, it's mainly been an annoyance at people who post pictures of door dash prices, with text about how inflation is horrible and things are so expensive. The issue being they door dash purposely increases cost of items if you order through their site, plus the fact that having food delivered is just going to be obviously more expensive.

The hate was towards those using door dash prices as representative of food costs in the US. Doordash is a luxury service but some are trying to make the claim that it's not.

Edit: should have read the topic before posting. Seems like others already spoke to the points I made

Of course Im not. Aside from the fact that Im very open generally on this board about where I live, theres been a few clues in this thread.

Aside from me talking about how the tipping culture around the world is different to the US, theres some dead giveaways when the places Im ordering from have Hanoi, Truc Bach and Tay Ho in their names.

I think it does need to be pointed out there is a growing number of people against tipping culture of America, who live in America.

This idea that one is entitled to a tip, is not something everyone here in the states supports or cares to participate. The number of people against the ass backwards practice of tip culture may not be the majority, but definitely is growing in numbers. More than say 10 years ago. Especially after covid where some have gotten more absurd with the tip asking.
